as most of you know, as your locks mature, they take longer and longer to dry. i hate waiting for them to dry, so i get them wet a slittle as possible. but this "vision" popped into my head i was just sitting there and i just thought "what if my hair got too dry and my dreads broke off?" i know this probably sounds stupid, but it seemed like such a real possibility..

I don't think you would need to worry about that. I've heard of dreads breaking because hair was too damaged from bleach or something but not because of them being too dry.

buy aloe vera gel (pure) and put it in your hair.
    or pure cocoa butter.
