This is a counterpart to the fat thread. I think they're being unjustly singled-out, so I'm going to courageously stick my neck out there as a smoker myself!
I quit smoking for two years --- BUT, before that happened, I had to quit drinking for 4 months! Jesis... Cigarettes and drinks go so well together, it's horrendous. lol!
I really don't understand what is going on in the last couple of years. Since when smokers are considered a "lower race"?! I smoke, and I don't plan ever stoping, and I hate this new "anti-smoking" politics, luckily it hasn't came to my country yet, and I don't know what will happen if it ever does, some coffee places have separated a couple of tables for non smokers, but those are always empty.... I can't stand anti-smokers, I consider them a new kind of rasists, so I don't have a problem with them. But when I hear what is happening in other countries just makes me lose any interest in ever going there. Especially USA.
i would prefer someone who doesnt smoke, simply because the smell/smoke bothers me a lot. i did date someone who smoked, but it was short lived (for various reasons). his nipples tasted like nicotine though, so bitter and disgusting. almost my entir efamily has smoked or currently smokes, and honestly the smell just bothers me *shrugs*
smoking and drinking are bad for your health period. hubby quit smoking after a very long time. he took thea nic inhaler. Worked wonders on him. Been 1 yr 1 month. He stopped coffee, tea, cigs and everything all at once. Hes totally fine now, now that he smells the cigarettes from the other apartments surrounding us he always says God i'm glad i quit that shit reeks. He'll never go back. its tempting, but he'll never ever go back. He'd rather do something hands on like play an instrument or play on the computer, rather than WANT a cig. Me on the other hand i quit maybe 5 years ago. Its tempting at times when tests eams projects come up, or when my stress levels high. What i do is exercise and meditate and crank music think positively. Everything will be fine. Funny thing is i still drink coffee. ;-) everyone is different.
I used to smoke so I wouldn't mind dating a smoker. But I think we would need to set some ground rules. Like: a.) Don't smoke anywhere inside my house or car - if you must, you may step outside (but don't just throw your butts anywhere, either). b.) Support your habit. I'm willing to pay for dinner, but not for your nicotine fix. c.) I quit smoking several times already, which just shows you how difficult it is to break a habit. Please respect that and don't offer me cigarettes. d.) If we ever get past the dating stage and settle down and have kids, and you STILL insist on smoking, don't do it in front of the kids.
I know! That's why I got back to smoking the last time. Because I started drinking with some friends again, and they're all smokers so... Now I don't smoke and it's been a month since my last beer. I don't plan on totally giving up alcohol, but I definitely will not be making it a regular thing either.
Musikero, thanks for your input. Great posts. Your ground rules are very sensible. I live alone and do not smoke inside (veeery rare occasions) even in the dead of winter. The "offering" --- much like drinkers --- does indeed pose an ethical issue. You are still responsible for your decisions, but the fact is there is a lot of social pressure around drinking and smoking --- and it creates psychologically unhealthy dynamics between people too.
i smoke sometimes, after a hard day when drinking isnt the best idea at that moment. So i wouldnt mind a smoker at all. Cause that would be hypocritical of me.
I haven't had a smoker girlfriend in a while. Although I met someone last night who I think might be a smoker. Anyway, in a sense it'd be more comfortable for me to date a smoker. I mean, I'm very self-conscious about the smell around women. But I'm also afraid it may make it harder for me to quit.
I don't smoke cigarettes myself but I wouldn't have a problem with a smoking boyfriend. My current boyfriend smokes on rare occasions if he gets offerd cigarettes from free.
a big fat HELL NO! its ugly, its unhealthy & it smells. I broke up with my first boyfriend cause he started smoking he said that he wasn't but you could smell it and just kissing hm made me feel sick.
i don't share my chigs, he has to buy his own i don't minde smokers coz i smoke myself it's kinda sexy
No, but I'm an ex-smoker myself. Its not so much about whether they smoke so much as I think it'd make me start again.
I personally dont give a shit if someone smokes or not, if they enjoy it they should do it, fuck what people think of them I mean if I liked someone and they smoked I wouldnt really care and i'd go for it. however in saying that, i have asthma quite bad, and whenever someone around me smokes it can trigger an attack so if they were like a pack a day smoker then maybe not cuz it might cause problems
