I finally got my lip rings changed. I wanted studs, so I got them. At first, there was no pain. I knew white stuff would come from the piercing because it happened before and my piercer said it was normal. So, days later, skin starts to tear away. Like on the inside of my lip, there's a layer of skin missing then it's the other layer underneath it. There's pain. I just started washing my mouth out with half alcoholic mouthwash and warm water. I've been taking pain pills. But the problem is, I'm scared the whole stud is going to go through my lip. I mean, the stud gets caught on the skin and digs in basically. I think my lip is swollen, so that might be a factor. Is this normal?
when I first got my lip pierced the back of the labret did dig into my lip and make it sore. It was all red and tender and you could tell that the back of the labret was kinda pulling into my lip but as it's healed that has all gone away and the back sits comfortably outside of my lip. I think it should go away as it heals and the swelling goes down. Just keep it clean. although I didn't see the need for pain medication but I have a high threshold for pain.
Did you get it pierced with a ring? I had a ring put in mine, and I can NOT wear studs in it because the ring migrated out some on the inside so it doesn't touch my teeth at all, so the hole is slanted upwards on the inside. Anyway, don't use mouthwash. Alcohol is bad in any piercing, it dries out the skin. Use warm sea salt water (sea salt can be found in any grocery store, right where the salt and stuff is) 2-3 times a day. If the stud is too short, try getting a slightly longer one... the only problem is, you might end up biting the inside if the stud is a little too long.
Thanks for the replies. I went to my piercer and got it checked out. Apparently, the stud was too small and it was causing problems. I got it switched to a longer one. And it does get caught on my teeth, sometimes. But it feels heaps better.
