I can do a pretty good british accent, but it’s not as uncommon (or as funny) since there have been a number of black british actors prominently displayed recently in hollywood movies. hotwater
Americans dont say wanker and bloody, and flat?? Wtf u guys are weird XD But I don't get how people say they love the English accent - which one?? lol... I mean Geordies sounds SO different than, say, cockneys. But you still have received accents, essex accents, scouse accents, manc accents.. the list goes on lol. I swear no other country has such a diverse range of accents I myself LOVE Irish, Welsh and Australien accents. But I can't be with Irish people for too long otherwise I turn Irish without realising lol. I find it so hard to speak to my Irish mates without adopting their accents. I think its because I basically grew up with an Irish boy and I ended up with an Irish accent after a few years XD After i moved and the accent was fading out I started sounding like I was from cornwall lol. I still do sometimes actually... my dad always takes the rip I can see that I have rambled... again -_-
With english there are so many variations... so so many... is this common among all "prominent" languages? In china (for example), is there a marked southern/northern etc tone/style of speaking? I had to stop goin to a dunkin donuts around here because the guy workin there looked at me like I was an idiot after I stared at him for a second... I was tryin to assemble what "djoe dosa pota" meant - this being after placing my order and asking "huh???" at the menu board about 6 times. The lady/his wife? workin there had to "translate" and give me a black cofee like I wanted in the first place. Apparantly the guy was saying "cream and suger", although I honestly can't say for sure. That said, that british accent + speaking fast = HUH????. Gotta admit it sounds really hot though!!!
I like the southern accent, and australian ...and the real real Canadian accent, because it reminds me of my aunt and brings me comfort.
I'm an American living just outside of London for about three months now. I agree, there's some good slang round here. Wanker is a good one, but I feel like bloody has been played out to the point of cliche (outside of England... where it's just normal). That is, unless it is used as in "bloody wanker", then it's alright . Off the top of my head my favorite slang is probably mate. There's really nothing like it in American English that is used in the same way. I think that reflects on America a bit... One of my least favorite parts of it is probably people always asking me if I'm alright. "You alright, mate?" What, do I look mad/sad/distressed or something? It had me wondering for a while, but I'm basically used to it now. I used to think I could do a good British accent, but now that I realize it's so much more than just how you say something, but what you say in the first place, I can barely bring myself to attempt it.
I love british accents..........to hear a woman with a british accent makes me melt.... they can be the ugliest broads ever, but if they had an english accent, I would just jump their bones. american accents are rather dull......... I wonder what most people think of the way I talk........ I get shit where I live now, because I talk rather country-ish
that cartoon character doesn't sound French at all... the French don't sound like that, at all... I don't know where that stupid accent came from, to me it sounds Italian...
