I liked the hitch-hiker's guide to the galaxy game. it's text based. if you google it, there's a java port somewhere online.
whats with all these retro threads? i wouldnt find it fun playing some20yr old shit game. i might hav when i was 5, but now id rather play graphical kings like stalker
because you are all on these graphical games that have shit stories and no passion put forward in development all of my favorite alltime games are at least 5 years old
Some of the best games are the classics, that are 5+ years old. To me, graphics is more than how rendered a 3d character is, but how much style and charm the graphical atmosphere has. Take the Baldur's gate series for example... the graphics are definitely not up to par of today's standards, yet I prefer the look and feel of the game more than anything gaming companies are producing today. I actually prefer the 2d landscape, with slightly 3d characters where you can paper-doll what you are wearing, than having an over-hyped 3d game. I really do just prefer game play and uniqueness over eye-candy, any day. Some Great games: Baldur's Gate 1 + 2 + expansion packs. King's Quest Series Police Quest Pretty much all of the classic sierra adventure games etc etc
Dune 2 Commander Keen Series Dark Sun Duke Nukem Stronghold (Old D&D Game, Not the newer Strategy One)
hitch hiker's guide to the galaxy. zork. ghadz, the old text based trek. well ok, that was even pre-dos! like the crappy one i did myself in the rom basic that all the 8 bit biter's came with before there was a dos, other then cp/m, and i never had, nor could afford in their day, anything that could run cp/m either. but EARLY dos was still a lot of the N,S,E,W,U,D,Inv,Get,droP,Save,Load,eXit,Quit,Help,Look, text based variety too. =^^= .../\...
The first version of Dope Wars - before it got windowed up and full of spyware. I could play that game for mindless hours. While I remember the old infocom text games fondly, I don't think I could go back to them. Maybe Ultima 5 or 6
just wait a few years. i'll bet in 20 years you'll still get a kick out of resistance: fall of man, while the 16-year-olds of then will consider it some old shit game
A few months back I wanted a "mindless" game to play and I remembered Rodent's Revenge. *lmao* VERY dos based. The first PC someone gave me was a relic, but the guy also gave me a bunch of floppy discs, only 2 of them actually did anything and one was an ancient version of Wheel of Fortune - in black and white and the figures were all square and such. I played that thing to death though, it amused me just enough. Tetris is good, and I really enjoyed Dilberts Desktop Games.
aaah for memories sake yes, but seems alot of ppl are getting into it newly. when i was alot younger, i loved mario - now i cant stand him. but fair point
I do love old Dos games, although I haven't played too many. Commander Keen is one of my favorites. The platform doesn't matter. It's the creativity of the story and the ability to draw the player in.
Sherlock, by Everett Kaser Software. Puzzle game. I play against my own best scores; very calming and helps me feel focused.
