The 50s and 60s were better but the 70s were still a good time to be young. After that the music really went to hell when an expensive video became a requirement to get a hit record.

Probably true about the 70s. School regulations had been revised no more dress codes, more varied curriculum, open campusses. I was entering the work force then, but it probably was a more open time to be a kid then the 60s.

The 70's were far more innocent from what I remember. No curfews. For example, trick-or-treating was primarily unsupervised... people trusted one another for the most part.

From another point of view, sex and drugs were pretty much the norm... readily available and often right out in the open. Nobody made that big a deal about stuff. Could the Republican party of the 80's and the paranoia sparked by the discovery of AIDS have anything to do with lost innocence?

What about music? Disco (now a guilty pleasure of many) was a phenomenon and soon gave way to New Wave. Indeed... video killed the radio star.

    I miss the 70's

Mike Watt Lyrics - Against The 70's

I asked him if he knew what time he had
He said he wasn’t sure, maybe a quarter past

The kids of today should defend themselves against the 70’s

I peered in his eyes as we stood in line just to have a look
But the pages I found looked like an unbound coloring book

The kids of today should defend themselves against the 70’s
The kids of today should defend themselves against the 70’s

It’s not reality, just someone else’s sentimentality...
    It won’t work for you...

Baby boomers selling you rumors of their history
Forcing youth away from the truth of what’s real today

The kids of today should defend themselves against the 70’s

Stadium minds with stadium lies gotta make you laugh
Garbage vendors against true defenders of the craft

The kids of today should defend themselves against the 70’s
The kids of today should defend themselves against the 70’s
It’s not reality, just someone else’s sentimentality...
Look what it did to us...

(Speakin’ as a child of the 70’s)

    The kids against the 70’s...
    Kids against the 70’s...

The kids of today should defend themselves against the 70's
The kids of today should defend themselves against the 70's

The kids of today should defend themselves against the 70's
The kids of today should defend themselves against the 70's

The kids of today should defend themselves against the 70's
The kids of today should defend themselves against the 70's

The kids of today should defend themselves against the 70's
The kids of today should defend themselves against the 70's

The kids of today should defend themselves against the 70's
The kids of today should defend themselves against the 70's

The kids of today should defend themselves against the 70's
The kids of today should defend themselves against the 70's

how can anyone know what it was like to grow up in a decade that they didnt grow up in? therefore how can one answer your question without making a assumption based on what they have heard or read not on what they have experienced..

so as one who grew up in the 70's i can only answer that i would never be so presumptuous as to pretend to have a answer to your question...

i hope that answers your question... ;)

Depends what you mean by "innocent", but I think things were a lot more liberal then, in that drugs were readily available and accepted in common circles, and AIDs wasn't an issue, so sex wasn't as consequential as it is today. As I remember it, though, politicians and the upper crust of society had a bit more integrity back then, so on some levels it was MORE innocent.

I had some good times in the 70's.

"Video killed the radio star", good quote, but didn't that come from the 80's?

Another thing I remember from the 70's was watching wrestling on a local UHF channel. It was virtually commercial free (in the ring) and way over the top (literally)... but I wasn’t really sure yet if it was staged or real. I also recall at one point getting out the aluminum foil for the rabbit ears because the snow was getting too thick on the tube.

Thankfully watching pro wrestling was a very short lived interest. *blushes*

You know, Luke Skywalker didn't seem so gay back then...

It was the era of drugs, sex, and rock and roll.

The drugs were cheap and plentiful. The sex wouldn't kill you. And the music still shakes the world today.

If you were'nt there, you really missed out.

well i grew up in the 50s and 60s. by the 70s i was the age most of you are now.

so i can't say anything about GROWING UP IN the 70s, but i certainly remember being arround then. it was the decade i was both most mobile and most gainfully employed.

i was really pissed when the 80s came along and screwed it all up, and have been about that ever since.
