Remind me again, whereabouts is strawberry fields?
Maybe I'm getting it confused with Grantchester Meadows, which is almost next door to me.

I've been. It's really nothing too special, just central park. I dunno, not to be a jerk but it's just John Lennon...

Never liked the bloat... his negativity is evident in the White album, Abbey etc...compared to the other songs. But I guess The Beatles was a band formed by 4 and he was one of them so... I don“t even know where im going with this post.. im drunk !!!

Indeed. When all's said and done, the Beatles are really quite crap. certainly over-rated. And I haven't liked any of their solo stuff.

Hippie heresy I know, but the fact remains: the Beatles are overhyped and over-rated, to the point where John Lennon is treated like God made flesh. How many people mourn Mahatma Gandhi's death? His message is I think more powerful than Lennon's (although they said much the same thing, Gandhi walked his talk).

    Gandhi walked his talk?

So nonviolence includes hitting your wife?

I'm not sure I'd go completely that far. I don't think the Beatles are the greatest band, or particular inovators as they are typically made out to be, but they had some great albums and songs.

Besides that, George Harrison's solo stuff was pretty sweet he played with Clapton, Ringo and Elton John and made some nasty porn music..

"My love.... fits you like a glove"

As for the hitting the wife stuff...
I think the only point is that the dude was just a celebrity. Perhaps Raven picked a less than stellar example, so be it, the point remains the same.

Aside from that... the dude was cool, but how easy would it be to talk about being a "hippie" or whatever with millions of dollars in the bank?

Again, not trying to rag on the guy, just bringing shit back to REALITY. He's a musician, now he's dead. He's not mourning, so why are you?

I know it is just central park, but still would like to go. I respect John Lennon and like his music. I am not mourning. I have not spent a lot of time on the east coast I like to visit. I do agree I don't think that The Beatles were the best band. But they do have some good songs. In the end to each there own.

I agree 100%. The Beatles aren't crap though, but that Lennon-worshipping really annoys the hell out of me. :(

I think its silly that some girls post about going to strawberry fields generated so much negitivity. Good you dont like The Beatles...Why waste the time to hijack a thread?

P.s Im a huge George fan...but I dig Lennon and have been to strawberry fields in NYC

Sorry, I didn't want to be negative or hijack the thread. I'm not bashing the band or the person. ;)

Some people seem to forget he just was a musician and a human with mistakes like we all. Nothing wrong with appreciating him and stuff. Just the worshipping makes me sad, he wasn't perfect at all (just like us, and even Ghandi of course). Maybe you're right though and I shouldn't have posted it.

no your post was one of the most constructive ones. I for sure get where your comming from about worshiping people rather they be musicains or other wise. It was more based towards the..."Beatles are crap" posts by others.

CLoud 9 is so great. And there's another album I have with him on the back walking through an orchard. He was pretty good solo. I love the outfit on the cloud 9 cover

Well, back in the day, I was absolutely mesmerized by John Lennon--everything about him, including his ability as a songwriter and singer. Although I'd hardly call what I do "worship," I do think about him every year on December 8...and it would be kind of hard not to, seeing as how he was murdered on my birthday and all. :(

To me, it's a moot point whether Lennon and/or the Beatles were the best singer/band/songwriter/whatever, because the simple fact of the matter is that the Beatles had amazing influence on an entire generation, and that's no small accomplishment.

After I got over my "Beatles are everything" period, I realized how many other great bands there were (Queen, Moody Blues, Pink Floyd come to mind), but the Beatles will always hold a special place in my heart.

I love Lennon for what he did. He opposed the war, and he did something about it. We need more recording artists like that this time around. And I'll mourn him tomorrow because he won't be around to speak up about Iraq. And I'm not saying that there were no other artists from that period who didn't, but he was really powerful because of the Beatles, regardless of opinion on the music, the fame ensured that his voice was heard. Can you imagine if people like, whoever's popular now, like, fuck, people like Britney Spears five years ago, anyway, if they were out there doing more about it than just singing about whatever nonsense they're singing about, imagine the impact that could have on such an ignorant mainstream public that we have now.

and i'm not saying that none of current days artists are doing anything, because i know the dixie chicks said something in public about Bush, and other bands like Green day and rise against and the foo fighters are openly against the war, but I think that it couldn't hurt if they took that a step further. I would love to see one of them open their checkbooks and recreate John and Yoko's billboards.

Did that make sense at all? It's a little rambling.
