i wanna get dreads but im not sure if i should go natural or get backcombed or some other method. my hairs caucaisian and fairly tight curls and about 23 cm at the moment. if i go natural does anyone have a idea on roughly how long it will take and some advice would be a major help. heres a picture its a bit old but still good. thanks for helpin out.
any kind of method will work well for you. Curly hair really locks up fast. All hair takes its own different time for locking up but typically its a year to have them really locked up good (this is for everyone though). Try to avoid wax, rubber bands, scented hair soaps ect. like we mention in all our help posts. If your really serious about it we have a sticky on the top of our forum with a lot of helpful information. If you just let them go naturally I think they'll do great and start pretty quickly. If you don't want a huge knotted lock though I'd suggest helping them separate a little. Sometimes when people just let their hair do their own thing they end up with one big lock or a couple big knots. It all depends on what you like. Good luck.
I've had backcombed dreads, which I eventually combed out. Not only was it too drastic a change for me at the time, I couldn't deal with how it pulled my hair. I would have little hairs that pulled at my scalp but I couldn't free them without taking out the whole dread. Now I am letting my hair dread naturally. It's been about 2 weeks and you can def. tell. I have tried before but it never worked, because it wasn't time. I think that whichever method you choose, let your heart guide you. You will know what's right for you.
you hair is super curly so it will knot up fast if you just leave it alone im going natural its at 1 month and 2 weeks and i can definitely see my hair changing get some dr bronners or some organic soap wash ever 2-3 days and just chill out for a few months and watch them come in
let 'em go! you'll have gorgeous dreads in a year. they'll probably start locking up pretty damn quick.
thanks guys. i reckon i'll go natural now with my dreads. now i have to find some of that organic soap i live in australia and i dont think any shops around where i live have dr bronners but ill check it out soon.. thanks again for the help.
