Today was day 1 of what feels like it's going to be a long process. Daniel's first court date. Now he's got a court-appointed lawyer and it's going to be another series of court dates. Ack.
The cops raided our house two months ago yesterday with the "probable cause" that they had a bunch of complaints of suspicion that we're drug pushers on the reason of "high traffic" in and out. WTF ever, we don't have a car, of course we're going to have people in and out some days, they're called rides! Anyway, after gathering some professional advice and opinions, he pleaded not guilty on the account that the search was illegal anyway (thanks to a wonderful law passed not too long ago that you have to have consent from ALL owners of the property to be searched. Daniel's parents own this house and a large percentage of the property inside and his mom denied them permission to search). We hope to get all evidence thrown out in court because the search was illegal, but that's up to his lawyer now. I reaaaaallly hope that happens, because it seems so silly to waste time on a trial over 3 grams of pot. If he's found guilty, then I figure he's just looking at probation, but we have to pay the attorney, too. Aaaahhhh.
Those cops sure do keep our society safe. That law doesn't make sense though, because if you have to consent to a search then you can discard any evidence ahead of time. So did they do a no knock raid? I didnt know high traffic was good enough for probable cause. Good luck with all that..
Funny thing is, I could probably count on one hand the people that come by on a semi-regular basis. Most days someone picks me up for work, someone brings me home, and someone takes us to the grocery store. That's high traffic???
