I'm pretty sure a lot of Beatles songs were inspired by drugs =P. Mostly acid.

    Yay acid!

It is clear that many great artists were influenced by lsd. I used to be a mediocre guitarist before I tripped my ass off and then I really felt the music. I could see what would sound good in my mind or just let the natural feeling of a place guide my fingers. It really showed me how to relax and not over think a song and now I can actually play most tunes by ear.

He denied it to save his ass. I hear that much, much later they confessed it was about LSD.

    i have a theory:

that lennon, whilst very high one day started talking about LSD but in euphamism like lucy int eh sky with diamonds or something, and then the kid drew this thing and then he forgot that he had said it and thought that it was profound, and wrote a song called lucy inteh sky with diamonds -=about- acid but which was still inspired by the picture

The whole song sounds like an lsd trip. The lyrics describe a messed up trip... and the whole song sounds psychedellic.
Also - look at the song on 'the yellow submarine' movie. Peoples minds being opened up, with fucked up colours and just generally weirdness.

Actually, Happiness Is A Warm Gun has always been denied to being about heroin, and was inspired by a the phrase appearing on the front of a gun magazine, to which Lennon thought was insane! That means you just shot someone or some animal! Perhaps it represents how humans are truly happiest when showing their power over others...hmmm...

Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds was really about his son's drawing, but McCartney later said everyone knows what the song was "inspired" by. He wanted to write a Through the Looking Glass like lyric, and there you go. It was based on his son's drawing, but probably evolved into an ode to acid. The Lucy in question has been identified and is still alive in England as well!
