I'm listening to them all over again.. I have a double cd of concert which is seriously doing them the justice I knew I have have given them when I was younger! Sorry I can't add more yet but I AM being blown away as we speak
'Free Bird' is my favourite, and I love 'Saturday Night Special', 'Tuesday's Gone', 'Sweet Home Alabama', 'Mr. Banker' and 'I Ain't The One' at the moment. I love their sound.
Every Mother's Son and Simple Man are classics in their own right, but I love the whole sound.. And the era that they represent has pretty much become THEIR era.. I'm still working thru my best friends collection whenever she lets me, and she's only 27! Just shows that they are very very timeless..
Lynyrd Skynyrd is not my cup of tea. I only truly like one of their songs, and I don't even like that one that much.
Play me a song curtis loew, hey curtis loew I wish that you was here so everyone would know People said he was useless, them people all are fools cause curtis youre the finest picker to ever play the blues LS
On the day old Curtis died, nobody came to pray Ol' preacher said some words, and they chucked him in the clay But he lived a lifetime playin' the black man's blues And on the day he lost his life, that's all he had to lose
Play me a song curtis loew, curtis loew I got your drinking money, tune up your dobro People said he was useless, them people are the fools cause curtis loew was the finest picker to ever play the blues
I like music with big heart, & Ronnie has big heart indeed. You can just tell. I wish I knew more of their songs... like all of them (w/ the original band members, anyhow). Lotsa love in those songs & I'm only on the surface.
Big jims been drinkin whiskey And playing poker on a losin night Pretty soon, big jim starts a thinkin Somebody been cheatin and lyin So big jim commences to fightin I wouldnt tell you no lie And big jim done grab his pistol Shot his friend right between the eyes
God i love Skynyrd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fuck yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!! best band ever...
My very first concert I ever attended was The Day on the Green concert in the Oakland Coliseum with Frampton, Nugent, Foghat, Outlaws, and Skynyrd. I think this was the very last concert the original band played before the plane crash. The original band was the best, but I did not like the reincarnation very much, especially with Johnny on vocals. Johnny always seemed to try and copy his brother Ronnie instead of doing his own thing. Then, after the crash, there was the Rossington -Collins band. I loved this band, and Dale Krantz was a great vocalist. There were other spinoffs such as the Artimus Pyle Band and the Allen Collins Band, but they were nothin special. And the band today is just a former skin of itself, still playing good tunes and quality musicians, but they are not and will never be what they used to, the best southern rock band and one of the best rock bands ever.
I won tickets from the radio today to see Lynyrd Skynyrd perform at the Hard Rock Casino here in Las Vegas on Friday night. It has been about 4 years since I saw them last, so I am looking forward to it. I wish Hughie Thommason was still with the band, but he isnt, so RIP Hughie. Also, and this might strike some as absurd, but I wish Johnny Van Zandt wasnt there and that Rickey Medlocke would take over the vocal duties. I always liked Rickey when he sang with Blackfoot. Oh well, its been awhile, and I hope for a good show this Friday.
Skynyrd is amazing, I heard someone sum it up best once, "the allman brothers invented southern rock, but skynyrd perfected it" Tuesday's gone with the wind, my baby is gone with the wind..........
