a bunch of St. Petersburg Family will be in Ocala next year to represent and different circles will be involved in establishing a kitchen and also my close circle is heading a mission to provide some kind entertainment. we realize that people are really only supposed to bring acoustic instruments and that predominantly the type of shows we're going to be holding but, a few of us WILL be present with a couple of doo-dads for when the wierd stuff goes down. i'm searching for power units, be they rechargable AC or DC battery packs, solar cells or even gas powered generators. don't worry, we're not going to bring a generator onto the trail. we'll run it and get it charged in bus village or one of the gates before we bring to our site for use. i know I don't wan't to hear that noise and smell exhaust in the woods. so if anyone has the capabilities to help out with any of these power sources, please help. we've got a truly kind crew and we're bringing the jams this year. i love my family! -Gypsy Joe
That's been done many times before, and never turned out well. Perhaps if your in Ocala it might be different, but it seems like power in the woods around a bunch of wandering troubadors is .... umm... silly? Good luck though, maybe you will be the one to work out the kinks?
HO!!!! Been done several times at National and Ocala......Again all turned for the worse. Now doing it in the Parking Lot is Okay. We've had Raves at National, etc since '99 but they were a few Valleys away. One year in Ocala a guy Jammed Johnny Cash ALL Gathering long. Same year Spider Monkey Boomed his boombox IN the gathering and was swagged by ALL. Even jamming in A-Camp will go good for a day or two and then look out. Just letting you know the deal on folks who come to the woods for silence and prayer. PR
yeah, but i think most of the people that arrive during the "official" two weeks of the gethering in Ocala are there to rage hard. so i'm just trying to offer something that i know is going to be really good at the least. i've heard all the arguements over gadgets and electric instruments in the woods. but, the only ones who seem to really have a problem with my battery powered amp and strat being in the woods are the high-holys. you know, the family members who think they know all the "proper" ways. i just hope that the rest of the family will not judge us for face and hate on us. i have faith that folks will realize our right intentions and add to our good energy. lovin' y'all!
Cool! yes despite what the others say, I believe you should experiment with the solar idea and try out your music jam. If folks are sensitive to it, then perhaps arrange a few nights that you can create the space and make it happen. Go with it.... ---tenali---
thank you, tenali!!! as far as the solar thing goes, i KNOW that no one in our circle has anything to help us out with, that's why i'm posting here to see if ANY OTHER FAMILY has those sort of capabilities. so, as of now, we're looking at those little rechargable AC power units that i've seen some street vendors use to plug in lights. they look pretty much the same as one of those powered sub-woofers someone might have in thier back seat. but, the generator issue.... i know we'll have atleast one or two we can use for our gear. but, like i said, we'll be sure to run the motor at the gates or bus village ONLY and THEN bring it to the site once it's charged up. thank you for all the energy anyone can send our way! lovin' you! -Gypsy Joe
generators dont hold a charge my friend.. you keep saying that, and its simply not correct.. a generator generates electricity it does not store it... you will need a power storage unit such as a bank of batteries, then you will need a inverter to convert it back to 110.you will also need a regulator to regulate the charge from the generator to the storage unit/batteries. perhaps you should get that straight in your head and make alternative plans now...
i think solar panels with a built in regulator,a few batteries and a inverter is his best bet. i imagine amps will suck the juice,,i dunno tho. hell for that matter could just spend all day chargin batteries off a car then truck them in hook up a inverter an rock it out... i wouldnt wanna camp near him,,but whatever....
yeah, i actually got that straight last night while talking to the bro who's got a couple of our generators. until we find us some small solar units, the generators and batteries are our alternative.
