is water enough? thers little ash in there and it smells so i wanted to clean it. i hide it from my mom so you think if i go take a shower and just wash it with water is enough?
Rubbing alcohol and salt does the trick. If not, nail polish remover is still alright. Either way make sure to rinse with water afterwards because no one wants to taste chemicals. If you have only smoked once or twice out of the pipe, just water might work. If you really want to clean it though, you should do it right.
the stuff in your pipe is not going to dissolve in water. while called the universal solvent, it isnt going to be effective at cleaning out your pipes. plain rubbing alcohol should do the trick. 90+% alcohol is best, and use just normal stuff, nothing colored or scented (not that green mint alcohol they sell) if you get the right stuff, it should be no more than isopropyl alcohol and distilled water. acetone, the main ingredient in nailpolish remover, would work very well, too, however nailpolish remover itself has a lot of other junk in it that could potentially leave some kind of residue in the pipe and affect the flavor and the health effects of smoking from it. regardless of what you use, rinse well with water after to prevent any residual substances that might be present, but still try to use something with the least amount of other ingredients possible. i dont advise using nailpolish remover, as it could potentially contain ingredients that will dissolve in acetone that might not be water soluble....in which case they might not wash off in water afterwards. just use alcohol, its cheap and does the trick. soak it for a day and rinse it clean, it should work well.
