whenever someone says

"good guys" or "bad guys" in a sentence, unless they're explaining something to a child or what have you, I'm inclined to think slightly less of them.

Ummm it made perfect sense to me. If an adult says to an adult anything with the term "good guys" or "bad guys" it makes the person seem idioooottticcc

someone who says righ or poor doesn't come off as idiotic.

good guys and bad guys sort of good, but so does saying the hero and the villian, in some situations. i guess it depends on whos using what term.

 

Yea I'm with you. When people start throwing out words like "wrong thing to do" "good/bad" to describe people, or start talking about morals I just wanna slap them/remove them from the earth.

I think it depends on the context in which it was said. I might use those terms but I might say them in a sarcastic way. I think if a person were to use those sorts of terms with me as if they were speaking to a child, then I would think less of them.

 

i got you, context is important too though. but u mean if they're patronizing someone or what?

 

I find that certain things people say make me lose respect for them at times.

 

well, I just mean it seems so simple-minded to think in terms of people (or anything) being divided into good and bad. the mind tries to establish order and duality, but no one has any good reason to believe thats the way things "really are".

in two gun control debates on these forums I've read comments to the effect that firearm violence would cease if the state only let the good guys have guns.

 

ohh.. indeed. like they look at things in black and white, with no shades of gray area in btwn, yeah. that is rather closed minded to think in those kind of terms.
if only good guys had guns, there would be no purpose for them. self defense to an extent, but come on. what's a bad guy really capable of doing when someone is holding a gun to his head, in the same respect i dont think it would be in the nature of a "good guy" to have a gun.
i see exactly what you're saying, there are many shades of gray in that kind of debate..

 

"good guys" and "bad guys" could be fairly used to describe fictional characters in a book/movie/video game, although even in those cases i suppose protagonist/antagonist would be a better choice of terms
