Reading my skirt pattern, I saw the line "without nap/sin pelillo" as I was wondering which way to turn the fabric to lay out my pieces...then I realized it reading does'nt do me any good if I don't know what the words mean. I figure it's something really basic and common because the definition is not included in the 'cutting layouts' box...so um, I feel dumb  So what is this thing? I usually just put the patterns on where ever they fit...but I thought I'd try to do it McCall's way once.
The layout would only matter if your fabric is one with a nap...like corduroy or velvet (if you rub it one way, the fabric kind of stands up, and the other way it lays down - on some fabrics it can be different colors) So, I would guess that if you don't have a "nappy" fabric, to just lay them out how you usually do.
Ahhh....it's the stuff that stands up, thanks that clears things up I love your screen name, I had three little birds live outside my kitchen window last year, and I just adore the bob marley song, I'd play it for them all the time. They were just too cute!
Nap also refers to prints. Like if all the flowers face one way, you want to be careful not to cut one of your pieces with the print upside down.
Oh man, yeah. I was so scared this morning when I looked at the butterfliles and realised that could have been a possibility...but fortunately the butterflies are placed upside down and vice versa. *shew*
aw those birds are so cute and i love that song too I have plans to make a three little birds applique on something.
You gotta see them getting ready for their first flight I feel like a proud auntie! I just adore the little tufts of hair on their heads!! They look like little old men at the park. What kinda birds are you thinking of for the applique? I am just getting into appliques and think they are just too much fun!
