Rent this thought-provoking DVD directed by Clint Eastwood.

It's about the battle of Iwo Jima from the Japanese point of view.

In a fight they knew they couldn't win, their orders were to hold out as long as they could and fight to the death, taking as many Americans with them as possible.

There are some great battle scenes, but also some great drama. It brings home the fact that while our governments and our culture might make us different, inside we're all just human beings, and what we have in common far outweighs what separates us.

Granted, a lot of it is Hollywood taking liberties with the story, but it seems a lot more realistic than John Wayne storming the beach.

Was a really nice movie. It definitely fits in today's climate. Did you see the Flags of our Fathers half of the story?

Kind of off topic but to the same point as 'letters from iwo jima'; the 'from the axis of evil' compilations, like 'lullabies from the axis of evil' and 'literature from the axis...' kind of give you the same feeling of hope in todays atmosphere of good vs evil.
They are compilations are collections of songs, literature, poetry from countries like iran north korea and the rest of what we are made to believe is the new evil empire.
