Hi, I'm moving into a basement apartmetn that already has a vent hole for a dryer, and I thought that would make it a perfect place to stick a grow box. I want to convert an old stand up freezer(inside dimensions 34wx24dx64inchestall." I think the freezer is good because it won't look out of place in the kitchen next to the dryer, its white inside and light safe, and if it makes a little noise/thats normal for a freezer. My plan is to keep all the components inside, so the outside looks stock. I'm going to put a bathroom exhaust fan it it that turns over 30cfm and vent with dryer ducting to the hole in the wall, which means air will exchange once a minute. Then I'm going to cut inteakes in the back base. For lights I was going to use a 250Watt HPS and possibly a couple of compact flouros to make a 300 watt total, or approx 50watt/sqft. Do you think I'll need the Flouros or will I be fine with the HPS. I plan to grow two plants from feminized seeds in 2 gal pots and use the rack to raise and lower the plants from the lights as they grow. Clones aren't a great options for me because I don't know anyone else that grows, and I don't want to maintain an momma. So, with 12 inches for the pots and 10 inches for the ballast and fan, I should have about 31/2 feet of height for my two plants. I was also going to install a thermostat to control the fan and put cups of water in the door shelves if humidity drops. Do you think this will yield enough for me to have about 6 oz's a year if I keep it running? Also, as I'm a newbie, any other advice and suggestions on strains and sources would be appreciated. Cheers
Yes, you could absolutely pull 6 oz a year with that setup. Sounds good, you've done your homework it sounds like. The only thing I would change would be to get a bigger fan maybe.
i don't Evan think u need to go with a hps light i would just go with cfls a lot less money and then u wont have to worry about heat and exhaustion as much also a lot more stealthy. also i wouldn't go with the feminized seeds just do it the old fashion way
i'd say go w/ the fem, with only 2 plants there, it would SUCK to plant regular seed and end up w/ males.
