What do people really prefer? I prefer vinyl. The texture, crispness and sound is a hell of a lot more enjoyable.
I rarely have money to buy albums, so I'm rather forced to rely on mp3. When my budget permits me, I usually buy only those few cds that have really made an impact on me, and sometimes a used lp, all more for keepsake than actual use because of my extensive mp3 album collection.
After spending decades listening to pops, hissing, and crackling, I couldn't wait to unload my record collection for CD's. I still have a couple dozen albums. I've now traded most of the CD's in for mp3's and a dedicated hard drive. x
It is most definitely! All ya need is a right click and 'play' or 'enqueue' and you don't even have to put the cd back afterwards!
i like Cd's. i will burn them to mp3 for archiving, but i like to have a hard copy. also i think pirating mp3s is wrong, so Cd is the only way for me. i do have a record player, but non of the bands i enjoy now-a-days are putting out records. but its nice to listen to some classic rock on vinyl now and then.
I'm the exact same way. I don't understand why people by albumns, basically at the same price, from places like Itunes when you can get the cd and put em into mp3 format anyhow. But eh, I have pirated songs before; I wont lie. Usually if I like a song I pirate, I will go out and buy the cd....doesn't justify it but eh....but I can proudly say its been nearly a year since I have....ok Im getting off topic now.... So my preference would be CD followed by mp3 and then vinyl. vinyl isn't portable hence it aint a fav.
It's fun to listen to vinyl, but it's just not convenient. I like to buy CD's and rip to mp3 for convenience. You can easily make playlists, switch between albums instantly, etc. It's nice, even if the sound quality isn't on par with analog.
I agree with this...I'm a collector, and I love having the actual disc and, particularly, the booklets. Some of the inserts are really fascinating, or have great photos/artwork! And I can always transfer CDs to my mp3, no problem. I still download because I believe in "try before you buy" - if I like an artist I'll buy their CD, if I don't like them I delete the downloads and haven't lost money.
Hm that funny, one of the reasons I rather buy an LP than a CD is because I don't like the small albumsleeves.
Well I won't be buying many LPs anymore in the future by the way because it's been months ago since I threw away my record player. It worked wonderfully, but was always making a loud buzzing noise, even when it wasn't on. Even when you pulled out the plug! And now that I only have one room, it was too much of a hinder. So I had to dispose of it. Afterwards I have bought one other LP though, because it was an Emperor 7-inch for only 6 euros. So that was an obvious choice.
I go for vinyl. Vinyl has a warmer sound to it, plus most of the good shit was recorded FOR vinyl and they made sure it was recorded for that medium. CD's make the sound so mechanical when thats not what it's suppose to sound like. I record my vinyl albums to CDr... but it sounds just like the albums. 100% better than any remastered CD. Remastered CD's of vinyl albums usually suck.... ok they sound good, but not as good as a crisp clean LP. *edit* and yeah you can't beat the album covers compared to CD covers. I use to to look at the album cover as I listened to the album and get the whole emotional trippy effect that they wanted you to get. You get shit now on CD's and miss half of the fuckin trip the band is giving you. And the posters that came with them and the inside gatefold and ....all of it.
torn between mp3 and CD :dupe: mp3's are convenient though i still feel that special feeling in my smile when I’m holding a CD...or even having collected a collection of that special musician i like..
Vinyl>Mp3>CD CD and MP3 are pretty much similar to each other, though i find myself listening to mp3 more, just because of convenience. Having an ipod to choose through thousands of songs is a pretty awesome. Vinyl is the greatest listening experience. Its a bit more of a hassle, but its worth the quality and experience. Im with spacetrippin's comment on looking at records while listening to them. Just everything about it is so much better. also, i sometimes find vinyl less expensive then cd's sometimes, and there is nothing wrong with that
Totally. I've been wanting to buy The Rolling Stones' Between the Buttons (1967) CD, but it's always $19 everywhere I go, which is a rip-off--it doesn't even have any bonus tracks, unlike a lot of '60s re-releases. But I found a very nice, original, Mono (!!) copy for $1 (!!!). That certain vinyl release is the only way to hear the original mono mixes--all CD releases are the stereo mixes which weren't high priority in the studio at that time. So I got better, rare versions and saved $18. And I can always rip the vinyl to my computer if I want MP3s. So yeah, vinyl wins in all categories except convenience, for me.
