So i was eating at what is quickly becoming my favourite Chinese resteraunt in Manchester last night. After munching through a rather large meal with my girlfriend we began to walk towards the exit when a guy from a large party of people jumps out of his chair right infront of me. i look at him in a "whoa be careful" sorta way then he begins to talk to me... so what! you may be thinking ...well this guy starts introducing himself to me but im trying to leave and im barely paying attention, he then goes on to say that he works in fashion and wants to know if id like to do some modeling. At this point ive had a look at him and browsed around his table at the people hes sat with and as you would imagine with people in the fashion industry they where draped in rather fancy and expensive looking clothing and accessories with the latest "trendy" hair styles etc (they all looked rather pretentious to me but who am i to judge) Im stood there in a pair of baggy trousers, a t-shirt a pair of etnies and dreads looking like your typical scruffy skater kid. the guys shirt probably cost more than all the clothes i was wearing...needless to say the contrast between me and them was glaringly obvious. so he goes on to hand me a card and writes his name and number on it and finishes off by saying we pay about 200-300 pounds a day...MY GOD thats a lot of cash !!! so im still a bit taken back by this whole thing on the may back home and im thinking hell for that money why not do it, then my girlfriend bursts the bubble and says they will very likely want to style and CUT your hair. Well i was quite horrified by that thought, i mean my dreads are only about 2 months old but ive been nuturing my hair for over 19months (from shaved) and after after waiting so long and enduring hours of back combing i was not prepared to chop my hair...not even for that amount of money. Anyway im gunna ring the guy today and see what he says about my hair but im pretty sure im gunna be throwing away the chance for lots of easy money because of my attachment to my dreads... anyone else had this sort of dilemma before? ...lol i know i waffled on a lot before getting to my point but i like to tell stories
it can be that they were interested in you because of your dreads... so don't go and chop them or sign up for anything until you know exactly what they want from you. it does feel great to cut them though, much easier than trying to comb them out. it's a great weight off. good luck!
money will get spent. unless you are in some serious debt and owe some big cash, i would let this one pass you by. dont sell out
my dreads represent so much more than just a fashion statement that i could just throw away. they show that i'm an individual who doesn't sell out to society's "laws" i would never cut them for money
