hey im new on here. ive had my dreads for almost a day now [did them yesterday, took just over 6 hours lol] my boyfriend did them for me. ive heard that using wax is bad?? is this true?? also i have rubber bands at the roots of my dreads is that a good idea to get them to lock at the roots or a bad one? theyre a bit all over the place atm and quite ridgid and stick out the back of my head like an explosion its quite cool looking, i got some very funny looks on my way to college 2day lol. how long will it take them to lock togther and decided to look like actual dreads?? any help/advice will be much appreciated as i want my baby dreads to transform into mature beautiful dreadlings as ive wanted them for so long. cheers[IMG]

wow.. they look awesome.. a lot of fun!
if you don't mind I would suggest taking out the rubber bands.. your hair will always be somewhat loose at the roots that's where the new growth is. I sometimes will try and tighten them by grabbing a single dread really close to the root and rolling/rubbing it into the scalp.. it helps to nat it up (but really I just let um go and they tighten up all on their own)

and as far as how long..... each dread and each person are different just be patient and love um and they'll come around.. beautiful start though really :D

my dreads are just over a month old and i used wax for the first 3 weeks, a mistake i think, i saw major improvement after washing it all out. also be sure to wash your hair regulary, i wash mine every 2 or 4 days, alot of people on here will tell you to lose the bands because they might turn to goo, i kept mine in for as long as i used the wax but i did change them after about 10 days/2 weeks, i guess it depends on what bands you are using. they might feel loose after a few months but give it another few and they should tighten up nicely. also i wouldnt wrap them so tightly just yet!

cheers for the advice :D ill take the bands out soon then and give them their first washing in a couple of days and wont add any more wax and see if theres an improvement. if i dont use any more wax how would you suggest i should keep them to their each seperate section instead of becomming rele loose and murging into oneanother? plam rolling each day maybe?? i seem to be constantly twizzling between my fingers, will this help them or not??also what do you mean when u say 'i wouldnt wrap them so tightly yet'?? thanky youuu :D

Take the bands out and dont use wax or anything else. Just let them do there own thing. Get some all natural shampoo and just keep them clean. Thats all you need to do

They look like they will be really nice :) but definitly stay away from the wax... i regret using it, and i only used it the once. and by wrapping tightly i am assuming that he means in the pony tail....

When you are in the shower rip them apart if you want them to stay sectioned. They grow together fast so keep an eye on them:)

well yeah, not much more i can add...get some Dr. Bronners (or similar) make some sea salt and lemon spray solution, palm roll when needed and let nature do the rest.

with regard to the rubber bands, id suggest taking them out as they will be a nightmare to remove a few weeks down the line and they prevent your roots from moving freely which will hinder the knotting process. I have have a dreads where the roots look like they have been splated on my head, i used a bit of cotton to loosley bind the base together.(also a lot easier to remove)

Welcome to the world frizz and funny looks, we hope you enjoy your stay ^____^
