Did anyone hear about this? It's pretty interesting. A little girl in India was born with 4 arms and 4 legs. After several hours of surgery they removed the extra limbs successfully. The little girl was named Lakshmi after the Hindu Goddess who also had 4 arms. Some say she was the second coming. I thought this was really fascinating when I heard this!
I even saw a picture of it, reminded me of Hindu gods right away as well! It seems to be a conjoined twin, there were extra organs as well. Only the other twin was far from complete..: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=491757&in_page_id=1770 She's lucky to survived that operation. Conjoined persons always freak me out a bit. :leaving:
What a cute little baby. I'm so glad the operation went well for her. How interesting that she was born in that way...
she is an incarnation of the goddess laksmi and i felt they desecrated god by doing the surgery. god has extra arms and legs and god isn't going to want to incarnate anymore if poeple do surgery and remove the extra apendages
^ realistically though it wouldn't be a good idea to keep her with 8 limbs. That would be a huge handicap and she probably wouldn't be able to function day to day, goddess or not.
I think is easy for us to say that, but what kind of life she would have lived with the extra arms and legs? besides being able to function properly, she's a child, she would have to deal with all kind of things from people. If she is the incarnation of the goddess lakshmi, does her essence lies upon her extra arms and legs? does it really make a difference?
I don't know why this belongs here. What she had a condition that probably made her cells to differentiate into limbs at many different places. It has nothing to do with spirituality or Hinduism. To be honest, God does not have two , four or eight legs or hands... these things are simply representations of God. The fact is, Laxmi is Omnipresent and Omniscient, She is everywhere and she has infinite number of hands and legs. Its quite stupid of people to think that she is special because she has four hands & four legs.
^ I posted it here because of the fact they named her after the goddess due to the extra limbs..i feel its relevant
I know of a girl who was named laxmi because her dad got a great job after she was born. They thought she was lucky. Every child is special to his or her parents, sometimes they try to divinize trivial things to think that their child is special. It has nothing to do with hinduism and it is not relevant to Hinduism.
You're right, nothing to do with it. I mean, sure there's this Goddess with 8 limbs. And sure this one-in-a-trillion 8-limbed baby is named after said Goddess. But nothing to do with that. At all. Sometimes we need to wade out of the pseudo-philosophic quagmire the internet tends to become and just look at things for what they are. It's a unique birth and the parents named her after something they felt she symbolized to them.
exactly, it means something to them, but does it mean that she is the goddess herself? No. So what does it have to do with? superstition? yes. Hinduism? no. Thank you and good night. Yours truly, Pseudo philosopher Jedi.
No one said she was the goddess herself. And yes, it does have to do with Hinduism in that she is named after a Hindu Goddess.
sigh, you are named jesus, and you were born on dec 25. does this have anything to do with christianity? or does it have to do with your parents' sentiments. I am sick of discussing trivial things, you want to relate this to hinduism? fine. Go ahead.
i don't think being born with 8 limbs is "trivial". how often does that happen? "The extraordinary eight-limbed baby was born in a poverty-stricken region of Bihar, India - on the day devoted to the celebration of the four-armed Hindu deity Vishnu." that's a huge coincidence, even considering how many holidays there are in hinduism. born in india, on that day, with 8 limbs... it could have been australia with three limbs on st. patrick's day, or something. i think it's relevant. at least worth discussing, as something interesting... and she's absolutely beautiful.
just thought id mention, that although its interesting she was born with 8 limbs, it definately doesnt make her laksmi devi (who for everyones info has 4 arms but not 4 legs- she is caturvyuha). with all due respect jedi (and i always find ur posts interesting i think it is relevant to hinduism in that she is compared to laksmi devi. that said, id have to see her shoot gold from her palms and maybe be flanked by 2 white elephants, carries 9 jewels on her fingers etc before i offer her my pranamas lol but i am glad her surgery went well.
god has come to relieve the suffering of the world and what do we do? cut of his limbs... absolutely horrifying! well, maybe some progress is being made cuz at least we don't crucify god anymore
She wasnt expected to make it past adolensence! This probably saved her life! And if they hadnt of done the surgery, and she lived all her life past adolensence do you really think she'd want to? She wouldnt be treated like a normal person, she'd always be different. When you're young you dont want to be different. I can explain it bt just think. Okay alot of people in India etc think she is the reincarnation but there are people that are gonna make her life hell. I wouldnt wish that on anyone. Bearing in mind i dont think shes the reincarnation. She is a such a cute baby though, the last picture of her before the op is like really nice...
I hate, when people think they can define things such as 'God' one way or the other, it is really immature.
god can be defined. from a vedic perspective. gods / goddess description comes from shastra (scripture), it is very precise and god himself gives that description. like it or not. god is not some abstract concept. but according to us hindus (vaisnava in my case) we accept that god is defined.
God himself? i didn't know that Hinduism could be so monotheistic. Give me an understanding, what is your Hindu definite, definition of 'God' or 'a God' as it were/ as it is.
