Ok yesterday was Mason's first eye doc appointment. He is 2 and a half and they said he needs glasses. They said he's trying to see far things and it's putting a slight strain on his eyes causing them to move in and that's "normal" for his age but that it could cause him to go cross eyed. Anyways bad eyesight seems to run in my family. But I can't get him to put anything on his head let alon glasses. I took him to the glasses store and I tried and I tried but he shakes his head till they go flying off...it was as struggle. I don't want to go buy an hundred and thirty dollar pair of glasses for a kid who won't ware them or just break them....My question is do you think I should wait a year to get him glasses...??
I could never keep a hat on my kids heads much less a pair of glasses! Two is young for glasses, not needing them, I mean keeping them on! They have elastic head straps that wrap around the head and hold them in place. And kids glasses are pretty sturdy. maybe when he gets his prescription filled, he'll realize he can see better and be motivated to keep them on? Go ahead and get them, by next year he'll need a different prescription if you don't.
my son is nearly blind because he's so farsighted, but we waited until just a few months ago to get his glasses. He's doing great with them so far, and he NEVER takes them off until bath or bedtime. Did you try asking your doctor if it might be possible to wait about getting glasses? I know that isn't always possible, but if he's only 2 then he probably doesn't need them right now. They also make glasses for children his age that are flexible, plastic, and scrap-resistant. If he just absolutely needs them, you should look into those. Don't be afraid to bug the doctor with a thousand different questions about it!!
Also get the insurance that goes with kid's glasses. You can get insurance that will replace them no matter how many times he breaks or loses them. Kathi
I ware glasses and my mom and dad do too. Daddy does not ware glasses but we know lots of people that have sunglasses. *sigh* Oh well.....
Do some glasses related activities, buy some silly googly eyed glasses the toy kind that have springs, and yes, find the man in his life a pair to wear, and ask the doc lots of questions, get the rubber strap to go around them that makes it impossible to pull them off. Maybe the doc has some other young clients who wouldn't wear them at first.
My sister had to wear glasses from 18 months old because on an operation she had to stop her eye turning in. Her glasses had the elastic on instead of arms, like Brigid mentioned and they seemed to work. Good luck. Love and peace x
