no, not at all......... yesterday was horrible and I did have a nervous breakdown... they made me cut back hours which put me in horrible shape for the whole week, I had to push double time for myself, and everything went to hell in a handbasket on friday and saturday because of homecoming and nebraska fans in town for the football game. Im going to go find another job, I cannot handle this stress anymore. one person walked out because he was hung over from the night before...... he wanted to leave early (9.30 pm) and I asked him to stay until the dishes are caught up and he just quit on the spot..... now Im screwed for tonite and the rest of the week. I feel like Im getting NO help, and I was forced into a situation as a kitchen manager when I knew I could NOT handle the stress.
I can relate a little bit. If I had magic advice that would help I'd offer it but all I can say is that it's not your business so you don't owe it your sanity. Whether or not you stress yourself the situation will be the same. Give it your best effort and if you're put in a position to lose the it's really not your fault. Your obsession with getting it all done at any cost is a tool your bosses are using to get away with not keeping enough help. Being "superman" enables them to continue doing what they're doing.
you were very hesitant about the promotion. can you go back to your old job? if you even want to stay there.
Here's my advice, leave work at work as much as you can. Then work toward change if it sucks. But right now, youre chillin at home and typing on hip forums. Kick back and drink a couple beers or something. Personally, I think you should get high. You'd be like "hhmmmm work? that shit doesn't matter thaaaat much." :H
Overnight stock is a pretty good gig if you can handle odd hours and heavy lifting. I know a lot of people who make good money doing it.
Yeah, it's not bad because I don't have to deal with the public and can pretty much work by myself without having anyone looking over my shoulder. The pay isn't bad, but isn't that great, either, considering the amount of work I do. It's seasonal work, though, so by the time I get completely fed up with it, it will be time to look for something else.
In the grocery biz the work is year-round. Same for many department stores and retailers like Target.
