The Mayan calendar ends with 2012, but that really doesn't mean anything. Nostradomas made some prediction for the year 2012, and since his predictions were so broad, some people took it as the end of the world. If you read into it, his predictions for the end come in like 1000 years or so. Some Christians believe it is the second coming or some of that shit, but why believe someone who has only a 2000 year old book to back them up?
To me it just seems like a souped-up Y2K. Because God forbid we not live in fear for an instant! "Oh no the Cold War will DESTROY US ALL... oh, nevermind. But wait WHAT ABOUT THE NEW MILLENNIUM ...phew, false alarm. Oh HOLY CRAP 2012!!!" I am curious to see how it turns out, though. (So don't attack me, because I'm not mocking the believers; you folks have been right a lot more time than me.) I love the idea of it being a new age, but ah, the new millennium letdown made me cynical. (Still, as an ABBA song goes: "May we all have a vision now and then Of a world where every neighbor is a friend... May we all have our hopes, our will to try If we don't we might as well lay down and die.")

The world was meant to end in 1999 wasn't it?.You keep hearing all these sinister predictions of when the world will end.Apparently all successive Pope's are told -so when you see the Pope make leaving arrangement-start worrying!. Yeah,2012 is as good a years as any,at least the 'London Olympics' are safe if it's Dec31st. If you actually worry about the world ending in 2012; - leave it to the other 7 billion people on the planet who will be affected!.
the mayan calendar is astronomical and app. 2012 is when the winter solstice sun is aligned with the center of our galaxy . it seems we have a bit of a wobble , but it's a nice regular wobble . somebody made a long-count calendar of this cycle . our troubles in this time be our own responsibility . we can tho have a big planetary hoo-ha party over this the middle of the wobble , our galactic new year . all aliens invited . no tasers .
