It is sad to think about.. In the next 4 days my love for our white sand beaches will be changed drastically.. With a 20-30 foot storm surge, the waves will roll right over the barrier island, destorying everything in its path.. Luckly for me I am about 6 miles inland.. However, the idea of a hurricane this size is truely a huge threat.. When probally half of my city is hitting the innerstate to go up north, or east.. My family will buckle down the hatch, and rough it out.. I am optimistic on the whole situation.. I know the house will stay intact, but I know my family will have some destruction of some form.. It is almost inevitable..

Anyhoo, who else is in the path of destruction?? What are you doing about it??

They have said Power could very well be out up to 3 weeks!! WAHH! Could you imagine?!?

I'll be crossing my fingers that this sucker calms down a bit. I live half way down the west coast between Tampa and Ft. Myers - just barely missed the brunt of Charley and Frances. Looks like we'll be spared from Ivan over here. Good Luck my man.

sorry to hear about that man...

Florida will be a disaster area for a few months. Some people down here (Tampa Bay area) still don't have power (or for that matter, a house) because of Hurricanes Charley and Frances. Now the panhandle is getting some. This is all Jeb Bush's fault... grrrrr... or rather, the 2000 election's fault... :p

I'm not in the path of destruction this time, thankfully. But Ivan is the worst one yet. DO NOT TRY AND STAY PUT, unless you are in an underground waterproof concrete bunker. Make sure you are stocked up on essentials, and get the fuck out of the way!!!!!!!

good luck to you and anyone else in FL/AL/MS/LA !!!

Yeah, that's right. I heard Asheville, NC was shut off from the outside world for days because of the flooding and mudslides from Frances. So let me extend my good luck wish to everyone in TN, NC, GA, or anywhere else in the path of this thing...

    take care folks ;)

I'm in the direct patch of Ivan. I mean, they're saying the eye will hit around the Mississippi/Alabama border, but most charts show us being within the area of hurricane force winds. This will be my first hurricane. I'm a little scared, but mostly I'm just curious. What really concerns me is the restaurant where I work. It's right on the beach, so it's in a world of trouble. It's going to suck big-time if that place is destroyed or shut down for an extended period of time. I actually like my job, damnit.

We have plenty of water and non-perishable food. Sometime tomorrow we'll fill up our bathtubs so we have even more water. We're prepared to hole up in a big closet with a bunch of pillows. It's certainly going to be an adventure.

Right now it's just sprinkling outside and there's a little bit of wind.

You hope man! Most likely it will slide on by you but you never know with these things. My mother lives in Panama City and they're keeping an eye out even though it looks like its heading towards Mobile, AL. I was living in Panama City when Opal came through and right up until about 3 days before landfall it was out there shifting all around and it was hard to predict its target landing zone. Of course it crashed almost directly into Panama City and we waited until the last minute to roll out, something I will never do in the future! Good luck to all that might have to deal with that. Take care!
