I pride myself on being able to pull together meals on the fly without much measuring. Yesterday I made this awesome pot roast. I've been sick this week and wanted to just come home from work and have dinner ready so I wouldn't have to labor much in the kitchen. I had some stew beef chunks in my freezer and thawed those in the sink while I chopped some potatoes and carrots that needed to be used soon anyway. I broke up a couple MSG-free boullion cubes and sprinkled thyme, oregano, and rosemary into the pot along with the vegetables. I also put a few cloves of garlic (it went thru a garlic press first) in there for good measure since I'm fighting a cold and all. I added probably around 2 1/2 cups of water. I sauteed the stew meat in a pan long enough to brown the outside of the beef but not long enough to cook it through. I put a little bit of flour in to form a gravy of sorts when the bit of fat left in the beef and the water heated. I came home to the best damn pot roast ever, just like my mom's...
