the humperheads is a band locally that's pretty good, made up of very experienced musicians. i thought the name had something to do with logging or some other kind of industrial equipment like mining, but it turns out there was some other, much more innocent but big and strainge sounding to them, that i don't remember what they said it was, word they were trying to pronounce, but it came out that way because they were drunk at the time. at least that's the story they tell.

there was also a band called butcherknife joe and the forest hillbillies, that was actually, some of the members from forest hill california, up east of auburn in my surial nervana mountains.

there was also, quite popular for a time, during the real punk era, over in gb somewhere, an outfit called throbbing gristle.

then there's the prime time sublime ... i forget the full name, but their greatest hits include little ditties like a day in the life of a micro-organism (extended multi-insturmental micro-tonal chaos, pretty much).

well there was a whole website of, hmm, i'm pretty sure i've already posted and mentioned this, and i still haven't tracked down where or how i came accross it. sorry to say. it WAS on the same site that had a sort of frank zappa fan shrine, so maybe someone could track it down that way.

oh and jimmi accardi's pervious band was called the laughing dogs.

i forgot, i think we all did, that this thread started out looking for UNused band names that someone could use for their own new one.

the flying purple grape machines and the rasburry wristwatch are names that were used in a science fiction story for imaginary bands that as far as i know, no one has ever used for an actual real band yet. and it was long enough ago i read the story, sometime back in the 60s or 70s, that i kind of doubt there'd be any kind of copyrite problems.

I always thought that 'short circuit' would be a great name for a band, especially a metal band. I'm not aware of any well-known band with that name. Maybe they're out there somewhere. :)
