no, i am not so daft as to not realize you were joking. i just figured i'd roll with it anyway.

i really appreciated your entire response, but i feel much to 'mushy-brained' at the moment to make a nice intelligent response. just wanted to be sure you realized i do have a sense of humour and am not so far gone intellectually that i really thought you'd put a person that drove a car into the same category as baby killers. ;)

I dont get whats so wrong about it? So long as there arent any breakdowns then great. On Some dual carriageways and motorways without hardshoulders it is an offense to stop, even if your vehicle has mechanical problems. I assume those rules apply on these stretches. great if nobody breaks down - a bit embarrassing if 30 people die in a pileup

I think it would be better if we scrapped the road tax and just slapped on a pence per mile tax which is triple for motorway usage that would certainly be benificial say start at 12p per mile and in 20 years make it up to about £2 per mile and spend the money devoloping eco friendly fuel

The problem with cars and congestion is that they take up so much space while transporting few people. Commuters especially only use one or two seats out of five, while taking up alot of room (not just the length of the car itself, but the buffer people maintain while they drive).

I think the answer is dirt bikes.
i don't know if they are common in the uk, so i'll explain.
they're basically scaled down motorcycles. they get up to around 35 mph (more than the average speed of traffic in most large cities), and are incredibly fuel efficient (i've heard around 50 mpg). they take up less than a quarter of the space (you need less of a buffer), are much safer than a motorcycle (if it lands on you it won't kill you right out) and are pretty cheap (i've seen them go for around $200 used). a government contract could get the price down to fifty. then you could offer them free to low income earners, and subsidized prices for medium income earners.

it'd quadruple efficiency, lower petrol prices, and wouldn't be nearly as over-reaching and infringing as taxing cars out of existence, or pedestrianising shopping areas (they tried pedestrianising in my home town, and it failed miserably).

Well, if a person driving a car drove it over a line of babies then would that count?
