I went to a war protest in Missoula yesterday and Barry plunker was there.. he mentioned somthing about needing riders to the wyoming counsel next month. I feel like I should go... but I've never gone to counsel before what should I expect?
To participate and be treated as an equal in decision making. Beyond that being self suffient, prepared to pitch in where appropriate and willing to be with new pholks without judgement is the best of the rest... With Love, (and keeping my head down...) Barry
wasn't exactly the experience of some during last year's tgc but on the more optimistic side, there isn't the same type of 'movie' going on as this year was last year Pitching in is good, always is; folks may get evening jams or drumming circles together, folks might be checking out maps & talking about places that were looked at in previous years. There aren't usually a lot of decisions that come out of tgc but you can learn more about what scouting is about & what scouts look for just by hanging out, asking questions & listening.
Next time you're hobnobing with His Plunkyness, ask him how the whole TGC/Spring Council process got started. What was the first year the hippies decided to get together Thanksgiving to start to decide what to do the following July?
yea good point, i've wondered that myself, i sorta assumed it started the 3rd year..i know the second gathering kinda came together without the pre-councel process.. but assumed that once it was decided to have it annualy folks came together when they felt was appropriate to be with famiy & discuss the future plans as far as hipstory goes tho, i'm ll more interested in when & how the gatherings made the jump to being international & was that decided on at a council here or 1 that spontaniuly formed in the country hosting the 1st international gathering (what country was that anyway?) cloudfeather, ive been to a couple tgc's, & really found them to be a very enjoyable experience not every momment ofcopurse..prsonal agends gettin ppl worked up & all.. but in general they were layed back, enjoyable & productive but the more important 1 to goto would be spring concil...but if your able to make both then even better.. taking parrt in the concl process to make a national happen really helps make u feel more comnnected to the whole thing, and especialy if the nationals in your region, the local host family takingan active role in planning realy does help make it a better gathering for all.. oh & last thing to expect.....us wanting a full detailed report..lol
I want to know why the tgc spot is happening in Montana...could you ask his Plunkyness that please; there was a spot offered in Cheyenne. (and funnily enough, some answers to my question did appear on agr e-mail even tho I didn't post the question there. the wording could have been a little more polite but oh well; same ole, same ole....) Here's the bulletin(the owners' of the phone numbers have given permission for their numbers to be posted): ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Date: Tue, 06 Nov 2007 19:59:41 -0700 From: peacetribes@..... Ceartainly no earlier than that, though I wouldn't be surprised to learn that it was more like the late 70's or early 80's. Couldn't have been long enough that any traditions associated with the institution are older than the late 70's or early 80's, though. And yet the dang hippies sometimes act as though there are inviolable carved in stone tgc/sc Rainbow Traditions when the institution itself isn't as old as the Charlie Brown Christmas special.
