Ok so I'm heading to Thailand soon and I'm interested in trying Opium. I'm an Opium virgin so any info or experiences you guys can tell me about would be greatly appreciated. Also, I hear that Opium is still legal for Hill tribes in the North of Thailand, does anyone know what the law regarding Opium is for tourists? Has anyone ever smoked Opium in Thailand, how did you go about getting it? Cheers
if u get caught ur gunna get ass raped to the max better have like a g to bribe guards if u get busted
I recently returned from living in Thailand and Thailand is no longer like it used to be back in the 90's where any joe-backpacker could do a hilltribe trek and smoke some weed or O pipes with the locals. There has been a major drug crackdown in Thailand especially in Bangkok and the North. A police program is now in place where all villages and tour companies that visit these areas are closely monitored. And it's part of the regulations that you must first register your passport with the police before trekking. Every tour company and every freelance local guide is required to do this. On top of that you will be photographed at customs when you enter the country so they have record of what you look like. Police are also now paying local informants (including tuk tuk and taxi drivers)to give them info regarding toursits and locals that attempt to buy and use drugs. So you really can't trust anyone, despite how friendly they seem. The odds are stacked against you. If you get caught, you will go to jail for a long, long time. No joke. There are plenty of western prisoners locked up there that can easily testify to this. Go visit one in jail and it will scare you silly. And I'm sure they would love the company of an outsider too. Be wise, stick to the Singha and Mekong.
A STRONG WORD OF CAUTION TO TRAVELLERS TO THAILAND. A STRONG WORD OF CAUTION TO TRAVELLERS TO THAILAND. First, I would like to say, I have been travelling and living periodicly in Thailand for more than 25 years. I love and admire the Thai people and culture. I have countless memories of warmth and kindness. Therefore it saddens me to have to post such a unfortunate report. Over the last nine months in Pai, a gorgous mountain valley 130 kilometers northwest of Chiang Mai, there has been a sinister transformation. Pai was renouned as a place of tranquility and beauty and has now transformed into a place of persecution and anxiety. The Pai police have been conducting an extremely invasive and aggressive program of targetting tourists and foriegn residents, raiding guesthouses, homes, bars, night clubs and random drug testing anyone they feel fits their profile. There have been numerous confirmed cases of people being randomly stopped on the street and being compelled to take urine tests with no probable cause or recourse. There is now a zero tolerance draconian policy in effect. If anyone has a positve test there is a mandatory 45 days in prison followed by a 5 year ban from re-entering the country. The transformation of the Pai police force from a genuine source of protection and sincere assistence to an aggresive and hostile team of persecutors has been dramatic and deeply tragic. The truth is drug testing is not without abberations and false positive results. Furthermore, substances tested in the bloodstream can and do last for more than a month. Therefore, you stand a very real chance of being severely punished for something that may have occured in your home country or on other travels prior to entering Thailand. Clearly, the random, non-discriminating and excessively zealous approach puts all tourists and ex-pats at severe risk. Therefore, I strongly recommend that you avoid Pai completely and keep a very close watch on the Thai enforcement policies wherever you may be travelling in Thailand in general. These days Laos and Cambodia are much more accomomadating, friendly and relaxing destinations. I wish you all safe and fun adventures. A concerned fellow traveler.
Ok thanks dude, unfortunately I had heard that this is how it is in Thailand. I'll be starting off in Bangkok, going to the southern islands, then up north to Chiang Mai and then on into Laos. I don't know much about Laos, what's it's like for Opium there?
