What can I do to maintain my dreadlocks. I've never used wax or anything and it's been about 6/7 months. A lot of them are only tangled half way down (I know, time), the main thing is all the loose hair. Also, how do you stop it itching so much? I seem to have spots/sores where my headband rests.
hmmmm, i dont know if you can really do anything about loose ends, i have some loose ends on my dreads still, i had nearly a quarter of each dread as loose hair at the beginning(only 5/6 weeks old now) but i would occasionally back comb the tips and palm roll with aloe gel. honestly theyve taken care of themselves mostly...this is one of the first times ive been happy to have curly hair ^____^ only other way i can think of is to use a crotchet hook on the ends, if your wanting blunt ends ofc...if not then ur always gunna have some degree of fluff. itching...that could be cos of anything, im sure as ur dreads get tighter at the root it will pull on ur scalp causing itching and sore spots (that cant really be helped) also using sea salt sprays cause mucho itchiness...my head itches like a mofo when i get over heated. if its a huge problem then maybe use a slightly harsher shampoo, or sop using sea salt locking sparays or look up on forums where people make concocsions from essential oils that "soothe" the scalp. i dunno what else to say, ive only had my dreads a little over a month so im not a leading authority. maybe someone else has a better suggestion
check out my crochet demo on tidying up loose hairs, ends etc...as for the itchies, shampoo my hair about every 2-3 days with castile peppermint shampoo. it keeps my dreadies clean and my scalp refreshed.
how tight is your head band? i fi wear a tight one for too long it makes my head itch. old tee shirt sleeves and old jumpers make ace bands that dont make me itch
where do you get that shampoo from.. right now I am using Dread Head HQ shampoo and only really on my roots because it tends to make my dreads dry funny but that peppermint sounds awesome
Well then I guess as soon as I move to Wisconsin I'll be in luck I'd love to get my hands on some sooner though...mmm peppermint
hehehe, I love it when Dr Bronners comes into the tread! We should all start getting free shampoo or soap from them because we're always telling people how good it is. A share in their profits!!!!!!
i didn't know if you were referring to me, but i don't use bronner's. i use the trader joes castile peppermint because it's just as good but not as $$$
I used a felting needle on my ends. They have stayed like that for over a month! Before: After: Personally I think it is way easier than crocheting. I tried that too and just didn't get it. And even those that looked decent fell right out when I washed it.
