My kitten was adopted from the shelter about two months ago, and he hardly ever meows. I visited him often at the shelter before I got him, and he was always the less vocal of the bunch. He only meows when he is distressed (my little sisters won't put him down, etc) or when he wants to be picked up and can't reach my lap himself. And when he DOES meow, half of the time it is weak and a little scratchy, but I thought that could be a result of him not using his voice box very often. Should I be concerned? I'd like to hear him meow a little more...how can I encourage him?

My friend has a cat named Pickles who got stuck in between two buildings when he was a kitten.... he meowed for help for so long and was so traumatized that he blew out his meow box and hasn't been able to meow since. He's been totally silent for five years.... poor fella.... What's really funny is that he'll make shapes with his mouth like he's trying to do it, but nothing comes out... That's actually probably sad... but it's funny, too.

Does your cat smoke? It could be damaging it's throat... :) Just take it to the vet and have them check him out. I don't know a lot about cats, but he should meow.

My cat hardly ever meowed the first few months. Harldy ever. I thought he was just a quiet one....but somewhere along the line he changed. Now all he does is meow for everything. If he wants to go for a walk, meow. If he wants to come up on the couch, meow. If he wants the dog to pay attention to him, meow. lol. He's really cute. Maybe if you give him some more time you will see a difference. Or maybe he just isnt the vocal type. If you still dont see a change in a few months then you could always call a vet and talk to them about it. Wouldnt hurt.:)

My cat hardly ever meows unless she sees a bird, really wants to go outside or is very hungry, otherwise we never here any meowing from her.

i wish my cat couldn't meow!! she starts meowing an hour before her supper, constantly, until we shut her out the room. then if she's caught a mouse during the night she'll sit outside my window and make this strange sort of crying noise until i come out and thank her, lol. not so cute at three o'clock in the morning tho :p

lol. I got home early this afternoon and didn't see Malachi anywhere, so I started searching the house for him. I started heading into my mom's garage to look for him and I heard a faint little meow beside me, and there he was...sitting beside the trashcan, looking up at me. :D It was so adorable. But this was another of the few cases of him meowing...he was just tryin' to get my attention. :(

My cat is very healthy and he hardly EVER meows. I was actually told that he was found in the woods, so that could possibly have something to do with it. He only meows when he sees a bird or really late at night when he's lonely. I think some cats just meow more than others. If you're worried have him checked out at the vet. A routine check-up shouldn't cost very much.

Good luck, and what a cute name for a kitty.
