Dave_techie, I think your the first to piss. heh just playing I agree that each OS serves a better purpose. What I dont agree with is your rants about Mac... or do you mean OS X? Windows actually sucks for gaming. The only reason it is chosen for gaming is because it has more available games. That is slowly changing now, as developers are including Linux/Nix binaries too. I have gotten 30-40% better performance (measured FPS) in Linux/Nix when playing the same game with the same settings as tested in Windows. Dave, FreeBSD is one of the best OSs available. I support your choice for a server. You may already know this but, OS X is FreeBSD with the Mach kernel and a fancy window manager. One great combination if you ask me. The biggest question is, are we talking about hardware or software here.
Always used PC, but now that I am getting to know mac's alot more, I would have to say Mac is my personal favorite.
It's like comparing Beta tapes to VHS tapes. Too bad Beta didn't take off. The same with Mac. They're not easily compatable with anything else out there.
Stupid argument that will go on as long as there are Macs. Neither is actually better than the other. I think Jobs keeps the argument out there just for advertising purposes.
Actually, Mac OSX is more compatible with the rest of the OS spectrum than any version of Windows. Ya see, OSX has a Unix core, actually BSD with a Mach kernel. That means it is actually compatible with BSD, Linux, Solaris, Minix, and whatever else there is in the world. Unfortunately, Windows is technically not compatible with the rest of the world. Windows is all alone. Other than that, Macs are now Intel-based. That means they have the same microchips that any PC with Windows has. And yes, Windows runs on a Mac, but who would want that? The only real hardware difference is, Intel has signed to offer Mac the latest technology before it is released to the rest of the world. For example, Mac has had the Intel Quad-core with TWO quad-core processors in it for a while. You cannot buy this from anyone else. Soon that will change. Other than that, Macs are designed in the US (and maybe some are still assembled here), and Macs are usually more durable. Intel allows Mac to request certain specs they want. So Mac really gets all the good stuff before anyone else. Need I go on?
amd has actual quad core processors, even though, prelim, they are not matching specs with the pair of dual cores intel is foisting, the design perks down the line are beneficial I like my AMD, and would prefer to stick to it. I am aware of some of mac's UNIX roots, I am also aware of *nix binaries for many games I still like windows better for gaming because, though it's evil as hell, microsoft's dictatorial power over the industry, gets shit done.
...and the average user doesn't give a damn about alll that mumbo jumbo (I quit reading after about the 3rd sentence). We just want to be able to turn on our computers, have something sent to us and be able to open it with no hassles (at all).
Wow, I do that on my Mac. Current uptime: 82d 10h 16m {shrug!} On a side note, I saw the new iMacs today, sweet.
Another issue is availability of software. I can get all the pc software I want. I'm not sure apple has software do they (a pun)? If there is, the section is very small compared to the availability of pc software from thousands of companies.
Selection of software on a Mac is a bit more limited however, just how many software programs does most people really need? Sure there are thousands of Windows programs. Most people only use a FEW. Most stuff can be done on a Mac, save for "special" programs. Plus, for those special programs needed you can run Windows dual boot on a Mac when needed.
and the two or three suites available on a mac might be missing key features, or no have the combination of features I want wheras there is such a profusion in windows, I will get the features I want if I shop around enough
That's fine if ur a techogeek. Most people aren't and don't care to be. Nope, you can't convince me (nor the world since pc sales far and away exceed apple) that mac is better. I know you don't need every single program windows has but it sure would be good to be able to get what you want. More often than not, you'll see in software ads, 'Not Available For Apple Computers.'
chuckf2000, to be honest, you sound like your stuck in the 80's or 90's when Macs did suck. Now a'days we run Mac's that you can push a button and it works. You obviously haven't taken a real good look at what there is to know in the world of computing. Mac's are superior in hardware and far superior in software. And yes you can use Windows on a Mac now. But who wants to. 25% of the world is now a Mac world ya know. So take it from me (someone who knows the mumbo-jumbo) because I've just done all the 'hard work' for you. mmk?
I see tons of Mac software. Some you pay for, some is free. http://www.buy.com/retail/searchres...e&display=col&dclksa=1&adid=17873&dcaid=17873 http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APP...owse&mco=8B21AA38&node=home/shop_mac/software http://www.download.com/2001-2003_4-0.html FREE: http://www.freemacware.com/ http://mac.softpedia.com/ Notice how it's not a bunch of Virus Scanners, adware, spyware, and security crap. That's because on a MAC... you don't ever ever ever need to worry about it. AND you dont waste system resources running a virus scanner 24/7 just to keep your computer useful. In Windows, virus scanners just produce a false sense of security anyway.
What, what is this? A double post?? I... I dont know what to say...... I thought editing was the latest craze.
