Testing New Forum Homepage!

I dont know skip..... I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who like the organization of the forums now..... everything's readily accessible and for those who, like me, dont tend to just visit one forum regularly but like to check out what's going on everywhere, the old veiw is better.... BUT again you said

so I could just bookmark it to auto go there..... change is inevitable so whatever happens happens..... just hope it all works out for the best

 

Will there be a way to filter the "active threads" results such as filtering out any active threads from forums that aren't in your favorites? Hipforums moves pretty quickly, and it's not very efficient if half of the active threads are from forums that you have no interest in.

 

OR maybe just an option to remove a forum from your list of "active threads."

 

you should make the active thread list smaller via smaller text and table and put the regular forum menu underneath it... that'd be groovy

 

I can see the benifit of it, people will post in forums they dont normally visit...but Im having trouble finding some of the less common forums!

 

i almost like it, but it is too busy, & havin active threads right up front sure shows us to be a buncha chronic masterbatin drug feinds & will probly just atract a hell of alot more of the same..heehee
if the forum list was where that is, then add the active threads as a scrolling list across the top....scrolling horizontaly & auto upfating every 3 min..then your onto something..but it isa lil busy

Heres a problem I've found, when I click on the see all forums button below the top 20 forums list, no more forums appear. Am I doing something wrong?

 

On the backlinks at the top of each page (Hip Forums>Anouncements>Site Anouncements>Testing New Forum Homepage), could a link be added to the complete forum list (i.e. the old homepage)?

 

I agree that it's too busy and the active threads are too... broad? I mean, part of what I like about hf is the fact that there's SO MUCH information and conversation available... but for those of us who aren't interested in incriminating ourselves online, or talking about drugs and sex, it's hard to find what we ARE looking for.

I'm also having the same problem with the "all forums" list not showing - it just brings me back to the new homepage. I can't find what I AM looking for, so I guess I'll just leave my $.02 here and hope that it's back to normal when I check back later? :leaving:

 

Could there be an easier way for forums like the lucky spiral to be found? I know a bunch of people told me they were having problems.

 

I hate it. How do you find the catagories? I've been all over the place and I can't find any easy way to see what's up... Totally lost.

I prefer the old homepage... i think that the change for newbies are just an excuse. newbies, above all young people, are more clever and intelligent in using computers than we may think.

 

I think the 'show all forums' link should be more visible and more obvious. The thumbnail 'my gallery' bit is a good idea though, it reminds people to keep their pics up to date. Also the 20 top forums list is a good way to get newbies involved without seeming too daunting.

I don't like the big active threads window though, it makes it seem like those 20 threads are what the site is all about, and at first glance there are no threads on there that interest me.

*edit* having said that, I wouldn't have read this thread if it wasn't on the homepage!! So maybe there is some good in it

yea i changed my mind, i dont like this much.
i always use the default forum style instead of the new forum style, because its just cleaner, & everything just fits better on my screen, i just switch to new forum style when i need to access those features not availible in default, like guestbooks & such.
buit now when in default mode & i click the forums homepage i get a blank page, i cant access the forums list at all now, unless i switch modes, & once your on the nw forum homepage, theres no connection between the posts listed in the post list & the forums they were posted in. & accessing the forums list is very dificult to find, with this setup, ya might as well scrap all 400 furums & only have random thoughts, because theres just no structure, no connection between posts & individual forums, & no easy way to find the forums that inteterest you
it maybe fine for some, if the style chooser waswstill there with all 3 style choices availible so users could choose theyre own style
but as it is i find it impossible to find certain forums unless someones posted in em recently.
as it is now some forums may just disapear & never get used much at all.

Looks like the problem with alternate style sheets has been resolved, I'd second the suggestion from others to make the "Hip Forums" link in forum view above return to the forums index instead of the home page though.
