... idk, its from Adelphia (time Warner) and its a cable modem, i dont know much about it unless its on the bottom or something.
OK. So it's a cable modem. Thats a start. Can you give me any more information? Is it plugged into your computer and is the power cord plugged in? Are you using an Ethernet cable or USB cable to connect to it? Do you currently have, or are paying for active Internet Service? What OS are you using? (hint: OS means Operating System)
ethernet, windows... its not plugged in cuz i only have cords/monitor set. but the guy i got it from had a dad who did software stuff and he has linux and maybe something alse but i dont think they work. also, it USED to conect to the modem but i had to do something fucked up to get it to work.
Ok. So you have Windows and you are connected to the modem via Ethernet cable. But then you said: Does this mean the cable modem isnt plugged into a cable TV outlet, or it isnt plugged into a power outlet? Do you currently have Internet Service from the cable company? To give you an idea of what plugs into where. The modem has 3 important plug-ins. First, you need to plug it into a cable TV outlet. Second, you need to have an Ethernet (RJ-45) plug-in from your computer to your cable modem. The Ethernet plug-in looks kinda like a phone jack but a little bigger (but dont try to use a phone wire cause they dont work). Third of all is easy. You need to plug the cable modem into a power outlet. After you know everything is plugged in, unplug the modem and wait for the lights to go out on it. Then plug it back in. This will reset it and the ISP (Internet Service Provider) will renew your IP address. After you do all of that, check over your connections and make sure nothing is loose. Restart your computer now (and I dont mean Standby, Sleep, or Hibernate mode). Give it a full restart. After it boots up and you get to the desktop, open Internet Explorer or Firefox (or any web browser) and check to see if it is online. If it is not connected after you do that, we will try something better. Leave it all plugged in though.
i know where everything is and i have it connected to the net, but i meant that i only have a monitor/cord set for one computer(this one) and now it said that i have limited/no connection.
on the computor, it says i have limited/no connection. where it has different options for internet connection.
