anway, i wasn't sure where to put this, so if this is the wrong forum, sorry, but I just got a restitution bill for 4,441.67 and all i did was toilet paper a woman's house the following is from a post addressed to some friends and is really more of a rant, but it describes my predicament: "So after I was arrested in my own home and charged with felony defacing, for toiletpapering and hanging up a paper sign with scotch tape(something that all of the police and probation officers I talked to said I would only get a slap on the wrist for) , I was ordered to serve 80 hours of community service, one year of probation and pay restitution which was to be determined later. I worked 80 hours in the 107 degree Bakersfield heat in the last two weeks before I left for college. I sawed down trees, cleaned out port-o-potties, and picked up trash and some dead animals along edison hwy. I also had to pay money to do this work program. I am serving my probation and I have to meet my officer once a month, which has prevented me from taking a class that I really should have taken this year. Today I got my restitution bill and I am ordered to pay $4,441.67 by next June. First of all, this is robbery because I know for a fact that there was no permanent damage done to her house. Second, I was tried as a minor because i was 17 when this incident took place. The people that were tried as adults only had to read a booklet and sign a paper along wih paying for court fees. For some reason it seems as though I am getting in more trouble than anyone else because of some statements made by one of the other kids there. I don' t understand why his statements are valid and mine are not. And I do not think it is legal for the justice system to charge me with things based on the statements of ONE other person who is trying to cover his own ass in this fiasco. Anyway, people of Bakersfield, please let eveyone know that this is what your tax dollars are paying for. There are gang shootings, child molestors, and meth dealers within 2 miles of my house and the Bakersfield Police Department is spending their time arresting teens for toilet papering and charging them with felony offenses, when some wifebeaters and drug dealers get off with less. I am going to take this story to the media. Those of you that go to Highland High, please let the people know what an unjust and malicious woman they have in mrs. Chamberlain. Let your parents know that instead of trying to make the community a safer place, the police are crucifying teenagers who are engaging in normal teenage behaviour. Let your parents and everyone know that the BPD has been manipulated by a malicious woman and a rapist named chris. This is where your hard earned money is going. I will not go down without a fight. My words will be heard and my side of the story will be known. I am taking this to the local media and I am going to petition and protest this restitution payment. ~Anjilla R. Piazza" so I have a question. How can I fight this? can I protest this? what should I do?
a couple guitars and a car...... I am 18, but since i was tried as a minor, will they go after my mom's assets?
From the amount they are stipulating, I think they've probably filed in small claims. With an attorney you mom might get around it.
Who's house did you do it to and why? Maybe there was emotional damage when she found her property vandalised. To be honest, it sounds pretty fair to me. You attacked her private property and left her feeling intimidated. Justice is served.
Sounds like a vindictive reprisal for some teenage stupidity. They may be able to file a judgment against you, or your family's house. Like Gardner said: get a lawyer.
