We have two lovely budgerigars, but in the last month one of them lookes like in depression. Before she was very vivacious, but now she´s always sitting on the pole and does nothing. She looks like she sleeps, but with open eyes, has got a tufty plume. It was month ago, that she has a same problem, but when we bought some kind of sweet feed for them, she started to be festive for a two weeks. But now, everything is the same and we haven´t any idea like to help her. Don´t you know ?

She eat normally, or maybe, is it possible that she want to nidificate ? Any want of female ?

hmmm... she might be sick. budgies are very delicate. my last one died after acting similarly to yours.... but he might've been affected by a chemical or something. when budgies are quiet and fluffed up, it's usually a bad sign. i would take her to a vet or do some research about what you can do at home.

Thanks for reply....well, we had also two budgies before these two, and they died for ilness of heart (?) We took them with sickness from mums friend, who don´t want to take a care. We went to the vet, but in our country veterianians maybe knows to help only dogs or cats...I know, I´m ironic.
But from where could came this sickness, I really don´t know :-/ And about which chemical do you have doubt ?

birds are very easily affected by chemicals.... scented candles, air fresheners, oven cleaners, house paint, nail polish/remover, tobacco smoke, carpet cleaners.... there's a lot. :( we've been REALLY careful with our new bird since the last one died unexplainably.

    how's your birdie doing?

Thank you for asking....I don´t know, if is it better or not. Maybe yes. Now she had a problem with our other budgie, because he looks so active in sexual way .) But four days ago we so him with bloody head, she pecked him. Now, they have a good relationship, sometimes she´s playing with toys, eat enough, walk through the flat (she is affraid of the flying) and she´s very nice to his partner. I don´t know....I wish it will be absolutely fine, but it´s better than before, though.

Hmmm, we don´t use aggresive home deputatives, lot of candles are homemade, we are no smokers, but anyway, fumes from the meals and also open window when it´s cold aren´t also good :-/

I would say the same thi ng about toxins in your house. Chemicals and stuff candles.
    Deodorants perfumes..
Ive heard birds take tiny breaths and hold it for long time ...
Things that smell like hand soap even might not be good for birds...
