Well I just moved to the edge of West Los Angeles metropolitan from Texas, and I live a stone's throw away from West Hollywood. I had heard for years that West Hollywood is supposedly one of the gayest places on earth, and while I certainly don't disagree that this place is gayyyy, from my experiences so far, the gays here don't really act as flamboyant as the media and internet makes them out to be. They have their own style of acting gay, like here, it's ALL about celebrities and fashion and plastic surgery, and looking like a greek god statue, but I had always thought that living here, I'd practically turn in the the biggest bitchy queen on earth. Do you guys think that maybe because being gay here has become so terribly inoffensive, it's no longer necessary to portray one's self as uberly flamboyant? Just thought I'd get some opinions.....

perhaps i don't understand what you're asking but it was never neccesary to portray oneself as flamboyant. being gay doesn't mean being flamboyant; for me at least.

oh, alright, I'll put it a different way....I meant locally, in west hollywood, do you think that because nearly everyone else is gay, no one cares about letting other people know that they're gay, either by acting so, dressing so, or whatever? Like in other places I've lived with a much lesser gay community, the gays would make it a point to let other know they were gay, but here, that's just not the case, and I was wondering why...

I have always presumed that gay people are simply human, not some strange life form, we are not clones, we have as many variations in our dress sense and our beliefs and the way we act as anyone of any sexual orientation.

this business of 'acting gay so other people know you are' is so shallow its beyond belief

no sir, I don't believe it would be necessary for you to be 'overly' gay in order to be seen as gay. I would just go for "be yourself" type approach, you're a smart, engaging and neat guy so I have no doubt you'll do well in L.A.

    peace,

honey, you misunderstand me. I didn't mean to make it out like I personally TRY to let other people know I'm gay, because I don't care either way, but there are some other gay guys I knew back in Texas that would make it a point to let everyone in a 50 foot radius know that they were the gayest thing to walk that street since before time. After a few years, I grew accustomed to them acting like that, but when I moved here to LA, supposedly one of the gayest cities ever, I haven't seen a single person act like that, and I was wondering why. My inquiry had nothing to do with myself, it was a mere observation of the differences in the locations I've lived in and currently live in. I totally understand that we come in as many variations as anyone else, I was trying to isolate out those certain types that have that kind of behavior, and compare them to the lack of those kinds of people here in LA, where I thought there would have been an abundance of so. I personally believe that it's absurd to have to act a certain way to "prove" your gayness, but it's just what I've seen happen. Not saying I agree with said behavior, just making an observation.
