Im starting the grow process today!!! But I need some suggestions.

    1) The PF Tek instructions say to put the jars in the pressure canner at 12psi for 30min, but my canner only has 5, 10 and 15psi settings. What should I do?

    2) Im building the lid today, it says to use plastic sheeting with a wooden frame. Is there a reason for the plastic sheeting specifically, or could I use
plexiglas instead? It just seems more stable.

Also we got B+, Hawaiian, and Golden Teacher... which do you think I should start with?

    AHHHHHH! IM SO EXCITED! =D

15psi...don't worry too much about if you're using brown rice flour.

Plexiglass is perfect, I personaly just bought a clear tub from wal-mart....how are you humitifying it?

B+ i hear is easyest and good yeilds. Golden teachers are slightly stronger in effects and are a little bit more picky but not by alot. Idk much about the hawaiian.

Just keep the work area clean and you'll get good yeilds, If you have the room look into caseings and also liquid cultures are great i'd recomend to anyone. Check shroomery.org for guides ect.

Start with B+. They're supposed to be the most beginner friendly. That's what I'm growing.

I am using the spray bottles the way the PF tek says to with a spray shield. Though if there is a better way that is less than $50 I'd really like to know. Also I see people mention casings alot though they never really say what it is or how to do it, if someone could post a link or explain it to me that would be great! I just got done sterilizing my jars and finished building the tank, I'll post some pics as soon as my camera's battery is charged!

Hahaha, the police wouldn't post in the forums, they know they'd get laughed at. They would just come to your house and arrest you.

3point5: A shield is completely unnecessary in my opinion. I spray the walls and the paper towels on the bottom, all very carefully, and occasionally pat droplets off the cakes when they do get on them (with a paper towel). Once the cakes are in the terrarium, your main concern is drowning and damage, not infection. The chances of them getting infected at this point is slim. A sheild makes life easier, but it isn't a necessity.

As for the casing question. A casing is simply broken up (fully-colonized) cakes and a layer of non-nutritious substrate on the top. The mycelium will grow through it or the mushrooms themselves will, and instead of having multiple cakes, you have one big pan full of crap and with a bunch of mushrooms popping out all over. The pan still needs to be in a humidity and temperature controlled environment.

www.shroomery.org can answer any other questions you may have. =)
