One of the Hawaiian Islands. Not Oahu or the Big Island, but perhaps Molokai. Kauai is beautiful as well, but that too is becoming commercialized and overdeveloped with luxury homes, condos and resorts.

Have any of you been to the Hawaiian Islands?

Yes I have... they are beautiful. I personally like the big island because there are places that aren't commercial at all.

Yeah, the Big Island isn't commercialized as much as Oahu is, but it's not quite as pretty as some of the other islands, like Maui, Kauai, and Molokai.

Hawaii is awesome! I was fortunate enough to have spent about a year kickin' it over there. Mainly being a beach bum and living in Rainbow type communities like the outlaw community in Kalalau Valley on Kauai.

I spent most of my time on The Big Island, Kauai, Maui, and Oahu. I only spent a couple of days on Molokai. My favorite Islands were the Big Island and Kauai, but all are unique and all are kickass. I've been thinking too about moving to Molokai for the last few months.

There really aren't any jobs there, but you can try to live off the land and off the ocean if you know what's up. I'd get a bike, and have fishing gear. I'd basically just try to live as mimimalist as possible. In Hawaii, this is much easier than most places. One awesome law in Hawaii is that you can legally be on any beach at any time, as long as you have a fishing pole. This is a way to get around getting hassled for squatting, or to camp without permits...

i'd rather move to someplace with a lot of narrow gauge railways, natural like gardens, forests, mountains, no building codes, no pavement is wider then a sidewalk or bike trail, aggressiveness is not romantacized nor rewarded, and the major religeons don't include christianity nor islam.

My sister lived in Hawaii for a few years.

She loved it, but it is very expensive.

I think it was the big island she lived on, but I can find out.

Yeah the big island in particular is expensive... I've known people who lived there but there are other places where it's not so bad.

I can see it now...Rat living with the Rainbow family:lol:

I looked into moving to Hawaii before I moved to Washington and it is crazy expensive compared to AZ, WA, OR etc. Even on the smaller islands, real estate was FAR more than I could afford.

One of my friends is about to move to honolulu next week. He wants me to go out there, but I'm not sure I would want to be stuck on an island like that.

I love Hawaii, especially Maui. I'd love to be able to live there. There are actually a lot of jobs there. They just don't pay well. Most are in the tourism industry-restaurants, hotels, etc. Someday, I hope to be able to live there - maybe after I retire. If you can find a way to do it-go!

I would go to Molokai, just because I love the name. I love how the word slips out of your mouth "Molokai"... haha, cant stop saying that.
I lived in an island all my life, it's beautiful and relax, but I guess after awhile you just want to be/see different things. Though sometimes I do miss a lot the island life.

I think I could see myself hanging out with a bunch of Hawaiian hippies on the beach for a few months.

I'm not a big beach person, but hawaii would be nice to visit. I'm a bit partial to spending a bit of time in Iceland, though.
