Hello, I have been taking anti-depressants for quite some time for anxiety and panic attacks. Currently, I take Remeron (seems to be the best I have taken so far) and some Wellbutrin. I take Clonazepam (similar to Xanax and Valium) for immediate relief.

My anxiety is sort of different then some others, I have a fear something health-wise is going to happen to me. Which brings me back to the first time I smoked pot. I got flip-book vision, time distortion and space distortion, and strange feelings . I have since learned from some that its a normal weed buzz. But I have panicked severely when smoking pot. I kinda like the feeling of vision and stuff and sounds are fun, but I get panicky and I am afraid to smoke pot now..

I still want to have a draw though, can anyone offer some advice about how to get over my fear, and enjoy what weed does, rather then fear it?

    Thanks,
    ClonaTHC

Marijuana is a drug. Anytime you mix drugs, you can get a bad reaction. The kind of medications you're taking are known to produce A "bad trip" when smoking pot.

The flip side of the coin is marijuana itself. Depending on the breed, it can produce anxiety all on it's own. Most people who indulge in it will have a bad trip once and a while themselves. Real strong weed can even make a seasoned hippy wide-eyed. :)

It always saddens me to see one so young already on so many medications. Hopefully, you can find a way to wean off of them in the future. Maybe just a good, mellow kind of weed is all you need?

As for your fears of a health related problem, look it right in the eye. The pills you take are not that healthy. They put a strain on your liver. Pot does the same thing to a degree, but your lungs will get tired before that happens.

Try to find a balance. You're fixing to become an adult, so maybe a little more involvement in the world will help with the anxiety too. Meanwhile, stay away from the strong weed and find something a little weaker. Good friends and good surroundings will make you more comfortable with it. Rent a comedy or something. Keep your mind from fixating on itself.

Thanks for your comments. At the time of the bad trips I took the medications known as SSRI, a kind of antidepressent most known for bad side effects. Remeron is the only drug in its class so I'm sure what the interaction is if there is any. Wellbutrin is SNRI, similar to SSRIs but don't quite have as much side effects. I guess the only way to know is try.

Any other comments will be most appreciated.

That is the perfect way to say what I have been trying to say for so long. Flip book vision is by far the craziest most fucked up I have ever been.

Pretty wierd isn't it? Sometimes I like that, but other times it gets too overwhelming and disturbing.

Basically put, there are two main types of marijuana: indica and sativa. Indica strains give a body high, tend to relax you, make you tired, drowsy, etc. Sativas give what is called a head high - the stone is very intense, psychedelic, etc. Most weed that is smoked today is a mix of these two. Sativas are known to give those with anxiety problems panic attacks, and make unexperienced smokeds paranoid in general, while on the other hand many MMJ users with anxiety problems use primarily indica strains for medication.

Seeing as you don't grow your own herb (that I know of) it's sort of hard to know exactly what you are smoking on unless you have a good connect that knows their shit (not common).

Maybe I should grow some of my own herb of indica and try it. That would be hard to do tho.

See when I smoke I find that this tingle will come over me, and it seems like I take the world differently. That kinda makes me anxious.

"See when I smoke I find that this tingle will come over me, and it seems like I take the world differently. That kinda makes me anxious."

Dude that's what marijuana, or rather any psychedelic, does to you. It makes you see the world differently. This is okay, this is good, this is why they call it a "mind-opening" drug. What you need to remember is to chill out, that this different point of view is temporary, and that you are not permanently damaged in ANY way.

That being said, we know that marijuana impairs the part of the brain that controls inapropriate behavior, paranoia and anxiety, are common when this part of the brain is impaired. The impairment is only temporary (just like with alchohol) even i have been known to get anxiety attacks from smoking (it usually happens when i'm extremely cold) it's no big deal.

If anxiety is your worst side effect from smoking marijuana, you can relax. this will dissipate with time as you become familliar with the effects of marijuana.

HINT: go through your music collection. Find the most relaxing, mellow song that you like. Listen to that while you smoke. (recomendations: hey jude-beatles, wonders dub-long beach dub alstars)

I'd take your earlier experience as a warniong, personally; some people just do not get on with cannabis, and given what we know about the potential triggering effects on mental issues, I would personally steer clear of it if you already have an anxiety problem.

Panic is certainly not a 'normal' reaction to weed; it is an extreme reaction in any situation it occurs. If weed causes you to panic, for whatever reason, wny would you want to keep using it?

well first of all you shouldent be taking wellbutrin considering is is comonly known for caousing anxity attacks on its own. sencond of all mixing drugs is not a good idea especaily on anit depressantsl. third, if you have a history of depresion and anxity you should not be smoking. marihuana is known to multiply the affects of both those symptoms.

Wellbutrin is used to battle depression. It is often used as part of a mix of drugs to treat anxiety related illnesses. If you continue to have panic attacks when smoking, you'll have to stop. If it's just stoned paranoia then you should grow out of it over time.

Anxiety and panic attacks are a well-known issue in my family. I've had relatives taken to the hospital by people thinking they were having a heart attack because they were hyperventilating so badly and just didn't seem to know what was going on.
Personally, I've never been medicated (my own decision) and never will... but I'm a die-hard pothead and always will be, haha. When I smoke, my world is a MUCH happier place. I tend to be able to overlook all of the bad things that run through my head every second, and I'm able to concentrate more on what's REALLY going on around me... the music that's playing, the lovely people I'm with at the time, ANY animals or cool plants that might be around, etc.
After my stepdad passed away, I had TERRIBLE panic attacks when I was home alone. Part of it was probably because it was three days after he walked me down the aisle, and because it was such a freak accident. I never smoked pot by myself, when my husband wasn't home or anything, but I started after my stepdad passed away, thinking it might help me relax more, and it certainly did. It calmed me down a lot, and I was able to sit there and talk to my dear beloved dog about everything... I know it sounds silly, but he was literally one of my best friends and the best listener I knew, and I felt like my stepdad's death was such an uncomfortable subject for everyone else, I never talked about it even though I wanted to. So I learned to relax, talk to myself/my dog about things that I'd NEVER talk to anyone else about, and just, basically... dance to the music. Being slightly-stoned all day was never a problem for me, I'm a housewife, still had my house clean and dinner ready when my husband got home, I was still 100% functional and everything, I was just a lot happier and calm, very calm. It also really helped me get to sleep at night.

yeah, i think that is good advice, cause when i first started smoking i had friends who liked to fuck with you while you were high, and always seemed to just have a mask on like putting on an act. when i get with people who are laid back and just be theirselves to me and dont try to make me feel judged and shit i had a way better time.

Its almost always just exaggerating the positive jiucy emotional feelings
Things that girls call cute; fluffy things, big eyes, simplistic personifications
Things that guys find dead sexy; hot ass, naughty innocence in girls, tapping into a female's perspective of life just amazes me while high
Things that guys think are funny; hobos, explosions, dazed and confused stoner funny stuff, steriotypes in action and interacting

Life sober is great and all, but while high its like adding music, color, effects and all to a movie of everyday life, so JUICY
