It doesn't bother me that I am fat. What bothers me is that: 1) the clothes get uglier as they get bigger. That is totally unnecessary. In the men's section, there isn't a plus size. The clothes just get bigger. The same clothes, not different looking, just bigger. That's how it's unequal and sexist. 2) Something like 2/3 of adults are fat. So we're the majority. So why, then, is it harder to find decent clothes for us at an accessible, common place like Walmart? Do you know how the fat clothes were labeled in the men's department? By numbers, just the same as everything else.
It seems almost every woman has a problem with clothing. For me the problem is on the other side of the spectrum, as I'm thin. My waist size actually does not exist in clothes. They only go down to 23 inch, but I'm 22 inch so its always loose at the waist. Also; they seem to think thin woman do not have breasts. With cup C, D on my size, thats frustrating too. If it finally sort of fits, it gets tight around my breasts, so tight that between the breasts I can't push the fabric inwards. If it has no room for breasts anyway I might aswell be buying childrens clothing; and thats just downright annoying. I don't enjoy shoping for clothes for that reason, unless its like.. a wrap-dress, the kind that has ropes so you can wear it whatever size you are. Or wrap-skirts. They're good, because they fit everyone. (but please people, don't say thin people are just skin and bones, and please don't think all thin people make fun of larger sized people. I personally think pretty much every healthy size is beautiful and I really wish people everywhere would accept everyone's size, its just getting a bit annoying0
I'm also in a bind when it comes to shopping for clothes. My issue is I have pretty large hips/a big ass, and a little waist, so I have to wear belts all the time so my ass doesn't hang out, not to mention my legs are super short, so all my pants drag the ground. I've ruined the bottoms of nearly every single pair of pants I own because they get so dirty and torn. My good jeans I roll up above my shoes, but my work pants are hellish, lol. But my gripe is the sizing of go-go boots! They don't make them for the chunky-legged people with small feet, I have to squeeze into mine and my feet slip all over the place in them because they're too big in the shoe area. So, my go-go boot stage was short-lived, even though I still love the hell out of them.
yeah, i have some kick ass gorgeous muscular calves. apparently they don't make boots for women with muscles.
Shoes are also a problem; I have very narrow feet. Not sure why, but it causes shoes to often be too wide. Maybe I should start making my own clothes haha.
Today's society is obsessed with being thin, and perfect. But who says being big can't be beautiful? I've seen people with a bigger waist who look reallty pretty and I don't think it's fair to base fashion on thin looking people. Everybody should be equal, so clothes for big people should be just as comfy and nice as any others! Everybody is propagating equality in many western countries, but when you look at the way society is built you can see that it just isn't right, and it;s all a lie. 300 Years ago it was in style to be 'plus size', so there you go.. To most people I'm considered very thin, and even I don't fit in moast boots on todays market! Shirts that are small in zise can vary so much. In some stores large shirts are actually small and vice versa.
size appeal<--- on google. I'm sorry but I used to get mad cause I couldn't fit in their clothes... besides DrJays (look on google, as preppy as it is still damn cute) has tons of plus sized clothing that is cute as hell. Damn. I'm twenty years old, I'm underweight, I can't fit in an f*cking thing!
I agree with green faerie; i mean, it is plus size for a reason, and no matter what, being obese isn't healthy. Heart disease, diabetes, heart attacks, etc. I mean, people are getting bigger and bigger everyday... does that mean we all should have to accomidate for them? For gawdsake, Disneyland is making bigger seats for some of their rides because people were getting stuck! The problem is that we're accomidating for people's gluttony rather than doing something about it. Too many people complain about their weight and do nothing about it, using the BBW excuse, so that way they can just give up on being healthy. I also highly doubt that the whole "bigger = uglier clothes" is some horrible conspiracy to make fat people ugly.
I'm not talking about people who plainly eat too much, I'm talking about people who are big because they're born like that, or have a disease that makes them bigger. Eating too much and getting fat ís you own fault, but being fat because it's just you you can't help it, fat doesn't have to be something negative!
No, being big boned is different from being fat. Fat, as in actual obesity, as in too much fat on one's body, whether caused by disease or otherwise, can ALWAYS be helped. The claim that it can't be helped is why the US has the worst obesity rates; because everyone thinks they can't help it. If its obesity, it can be helped with exersize, diet, or medicine. Obesity IS a disease and there is no reason to be complacent about it.
There IS such thing as plus sized men's clothes. It is normally called "big and tall." Larger men have problems finding clothes, too. This isn't sexist; if anything, it's related to size discrimination, which I don't really believe exists. Sure, there are stores that only carry tiny sizes. There are also stores that only carry larger sizes. I wouldn't go into either type of store and complain about "size discrimination." I wear a size 9 and don't shop at stores that mainly have sizes 0-5 or 20-40. I look at stores that carry my size of clothes. If you can't find a store that carries your size in your area, check the internet. There are LOTS of options for "plus" size clothing, some that only carry larger sizes. Here's a couple links: http://www.catalogs.com/plus-size-clothing.html http://www.plussizeliving.com/custom/curvy_connections.html This isn't sexist, my fiance normally wears 38 but in a certain brand, he wears 40. I do think this method would be better, because I wear size 9 in "Charlotte Russe" jeans, but a size 8 in "Express" jeans is really big on me. It would be much easier to have width and length as measurements instead of a number system which a size 9 is a size 7 in some brands and 11 in others, although the men's system isn't flawless either, as my fiance found out. Plus, would women really want to see their exact measurements? It depends on the person. Peace and love
agreed. Why shouldn't there be stores for small or large people? there are stores for "average" sized people. I think heavyset clothes are made based on what most heavyset people like to wear; no offense, but I don't think a top that looks good on a size 5 will look good on a size 50!!
wow, if you dont want to wear plus sized clothing stop being plus size. Simple as that, now here's whats probably gonna happen: I'm gonna get a couple of responses like "oh thats so you rude you igorant little prick" and stuff like that but really, It's not my fault she's fat. They have those sections so people can see wear their clothes are, fuck some people take things way to seriously.
True, I agree on that one But there has to be more diversity in clothes, for big people as well as thin people, small people and tall people, not just for people with a slender medium length body and bigger brests.
haha, no disagreements here, friend! You basically said what I wanted to say, but knew would only recieve whines and flames. rock on dude
ah, youth. i have no respect for anyone who's thin for no reason whatsoever. my sister in law is like that. she eats like a lumberjack, drinks like a canadian lumberjack and says "oh, i just do thirty sit ups a day." my husband is like that. i work very hard to eat healthy and be healthy. i'm very fit, i'm not obese, but i'm not built like a waif. i have huge breasts, an actual waistline, HIPS (which are, in my opinion, typically way sexier than a woman built like a two by four), gorgeous legs, a beautiful face. oh yes, i'm all woman. but when you go to the women's section, and all the clothes are built for women with no curves at all, fuck that shit.
You're still way young, mamaKCita! I'm not skinny for no reason (hell, I'm not really skinny, just slim). There's a damn good reason. Sure, I eat like a horse most days. But I also try to walk 3 or 4 times a week, and work out. Nothing wrong with being a tiny girl. I'm only 5'3, so extra weight makes me look more plump than I am and made my face look like a chipmunk. I had no self-esteem when I was heavier. Nothing wrong with being a big girl either, as long as you're healthy and happy.
well, it's only that you hear nothing from the less metally developed teenagers oversimplifying everything. it was an AWFUL shock to the super-skinnys in my personal circle that i was in better shape than they were. they thought they could keep eating garbage, not taking care of their diet or their fitness. i mean, if they're skinny, they must be healthy. HAHAHAHAHHA! totally wrong. my physicals make them look like an overeater's anonymous meeting. they're all coming to me for advice now. don't assume that just because you're ass is tiny that you're any better off than that "pleasantly plump" girl who's filling out some size tens.
Not all smaller girls eat trash, at least not all the time. And my ass isn't tiny, it's the biggest part of me. I think size 10 girls look pretty good.
that's not the point. it's the ones who are tiny for no reason whatsoever that think that the fact that they wake up skinny for no reason means it's so easy for everyone else. it's not true. i've surrounded by people who treat their bodies like a land fill and somehow think there's something wrong with ME and all the other healthy yet full bodied women that makes us not so skinny. THOSE are the fucktards i wanna bitch slap. just because i'm not a 6 doesn't mean i'm not healthy, fit, strong, active and going to outlive them.
