And the reason I'm telling you this, is because a few people said that when I became mod of this forum I should put on some of my work. this 'short story' is getting longer everytime I write it and I'm really not disciplined enough, I'll think to myself, that I should try and write a bit each day even if its just a paragragh and then a few days later I'll remember I haven't done any of it. I want to work on a longer novel, but I don't intend to start it until I've finished the story, otherwise I'll just end up with a lot of half finished projects. anyhow, when its finished I'll put it on here. for you all to praise or ruin as you see fit, my friends like what I've written so far so we'll see what people who don't know me think S
why not just let yourself end up with several half finished projects, that's a lot more constructive than waiting to write a novel because you haven't finished one short story if you end up with several half finished projects, chances are you'll end up with your novel 'show's i see it
You're starting the hard way- good short stories are ALOT harder to build than a good novel. If you're short story wants to be a novel (or novella or whatever), LET IT.
it wants to be a long short story, my guess is that it will be about 15 pages long. I'm not sure wether novels are harder, isn't difficult keeping something interesting over a long period? S
I know as a fact of life that serious writers think writing a novel to be somewhat easier than writing the short story. Writers often call the short story a "chinese" and this is because like a chinese takeaway meal its short compact - fills you right up for as short time and then leaves you empty gagging for4 more. The short story must have normality disruption and resolution within a short space of time with a novel it is intuitive to think the longer story must be the harder to work out but it's not the case. Reason being that the novel can have subplots which divert the readers attention away from the implausibility of the main plot maybe if not the implausibility then certainly the impossibility - short story is all plot and character with no technical mischief just good honest talent
