Maybe the Syrians are smart enough to know that any overt act of agression will lead to them being treated as Lebanon was.
Please DON'T believe the BBC anymore. They are just a tool of the warmongers and weapons dealers anymore. That's not where I get my info. Even the Guardian is being censored now. I do believe the Israelis struck a decisive and important blow to the Syrians. THAT'S why they're silent. They look like shit if they admit the Israelis got the best of them and they have NO ISRAELI blood or prisoners or shot down aircraft to brag about! Also if they were to even admit they were hit by Israel, they'd have to explain what was hit. If it was some kind of WMD installation, then they'd have to explain how they got that, who provided it, etc. None of that would make Syria look good in the eyes of the world. And Iran is of course silent on the matter too. If they had ppl there who died, they also look bad. Just like North Korea too. The Israelis are being quiet for different reasons. Security being the foremost. They don't want to admit how they were able to get thru Syria's defense perimeter as that might give away the game. It is a fact that Israel has launched new spy satellites this year that see very well into Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and who knows where else. But the real reason for Israel's silence is that they've been waiting for a reaction from Syria or Iran. They had a complete military-ordered blackout of the news media for a week subsequent to their bombing of Syria. So they couldn't say anything even if they wanted. Another reason for the news blackout was the cooperation of the US which was ready to carpet bomb Iran if they even lifted a finger to help Syria. The US was up to its ARMED NUKES in this matter. We may have just come closer to Nuclear War than we were during the Bay of Pigs in 1961. That is a fact we should all pause and let settle into our psyches. Do your children know how to Duck and Cover?
if the mission was a failure then the military having suffered a recent blow wouldn't want to admit another. the syrians on their part aren't saying anything. it might mean the israelis will try again i think it was a propaganda exercise. when the israelis tire of bombing the former owners of the palestine they bomb their neighbours. this is just part of the war of attrition.
i'm posting from syria today no one in the streets here seems worried about an american/ israeli attack so i guess it was all just a bit of bluff from the israelis. (i'm on my travels at the moment) for all the hype from the bbc or fox no one here seems concerned. for what its worth it might interest you that backpacking in syria is actually pretty cheap.
I've always wanted to visit Syria, glad you could make it guy. There's a new report out now. It explains further what happened. It seems the Syrians, Iranians and Russians were all STUNNED by the successful attack. It was so successful, they had no idea which way the planes came or even if they were Israeli or American! It wasn't until the Israelis confirmed the attack THIS WEEK that they finally knew for sure who did it. They still don't know HOW they did, nor which way the attackers came. Plus there are reports that when the attack occured Cellphones, computers and communications were disrupted not only in Syria but Lebanon too! How they were able to achieve such a well coordinated and successful surprise attack is still a mystery. Technically it implies that the US could attack Iran WITHOUT ANY RESISTANCE from the much vaunted Russian defense system that Iran is depending upon. So that's why there was NO RESPONSE from Syria or Iran. They are WIDE OPEN to attack at this time! That's why there's so much effort going on Capitol Hill to get support to attack Iran right now. They're vunerable and they know it. But maybe not for long. The Russians will soon figure out how their systems were neutralized, and they'll be able to fight against it. Unless of course it was some kind of Electro Magnetic Pulse bomb they used. That's very hard to shield against. So WAR with IRAN is on top of Cheney and Bush's agenda these days.... Expect war before the end of the year if not very soon...
my own feelings are that if it was so successful then they would have attacked many moons ago. this method of disabling defensive systems has been around for quite some time. military jets have been well protected from this kind of weapon for at least 30 years. i'm pretty sure the russians would have technology to know what was going on. the mood on the streets here seems to be that no one is particularly worried about israel, they seem to be building more hotels here which would imply they expect more money to come their way. the gulf of tonkin incident as you would remember wasabout the american navysailing in circles blastingthe hell out of waves and claiming the NVA was shooting at them.likewise the israelis were probably flying around blowing up empty ground and claiming it was dangerous facilities. no one really knows whats going on any more the voting public are more or less like mushrooms. on a point aside you'd be surprised how many historical sites you have over here, well worth the visit.
Earlier in the week, in an interview with BBC Television, Syrian President Bashar Assad said that "Syria will take back the Golan Heights, we will not relinquish it... The occupied Golan's return to the fatherland is the only way to achieve peace." Sounds more like Israel should be worried about a attack from Syria. Syria held several State ceremonies Saturday marking the anniversary of the Yom Kippur War. The Syrian army held parades and opened several military bases to the public. We're looking forward to some photos.
There's a lot of my "wang is bigger than your wang" strutting going on right now. Its enough to make a person ill. War is coming. I recognize that smell in the air. Remember it from years past. This is a cycle. The world is pregnant with the possibility of WWWIII. The only real question is who will fire the first shot, and why? I think the US may pick a fight with Iran, allowing Iran to retaliate, and then just carpet bomb their infrastructure. While this may break the Iranians in time, it may also inflame the entire Middle East, stopping all oil exports. Once it begins, every country with a score to settle, will. Going to burn hot for a while. Look for the US to sustain damage this time. World wide depression will follow, as will as the crime figures that rise in such times. Better savor your Walmarts while you still can. x
as the news story of the israeli bombing is evolving.. it seems bugger all was hit i i started thinking once i got over the hurdle of realising that a lot of the news story was inferrence than any real fact. what confirmed it is when some in israel were talking a strike (as it turned out some olive groves) can anyone tell me where mount nebo is and what its significance is within the bible? oh yes and mount sinai wheres josephs tomb or at least where was it?
I think it was a mistimed entry into Syria and Iran, thing they didn't count on was the outcry against accelerating the war into Syria and Iran. I think the neo-cons still think the world wants their agenda. I think the western world was supposed to be lead to believe that Syria was also a huge boogeyman. According to the Bible Moses saw the promised land for the first time from the top of Mt. Nebo. I think they feel because Syria and Iran are part of big brother Bush's axis of evil anything goes. Trouble is GW doesn't hold that much hot water anymore. And he's stretched his military so far, he can't expand without a lot of outside support.
Funny that, since the reason the occupied Lebanon for so long was brotherly love. The same brotherly love that keeps getting anti-Syrian politicians in Lebanon assassinated. And the same brotherly love that keeps the flow of missiles for Hizbollah, a private army, to stock up on for the next time they feel like bombing Israeli cities. By the way, unless you're saying Assad is really into disco, its "boogeyman".
i'm not suggesting that syria is some sort of shangri la but from what i've seen here i feel that the general construction work going on here suggests that syria has more interest in making money in the tourist industry. as a point aside i see very few arms displayed here compared to even turkey. following my original questions heres something more to ponder... lets say you were a religious fundamentalist with a deep and overiding belief in the old testament. wouldn't these places of interest be very important to you? how would you feel if these places resided in another country under the control of someone who was not of your religion?
