How can you know if the weed you're rolling/smoking is of good quality?

Any tips? Can you recognize a difference between good quality of weed and bad?

 

Signs of good bud:
CRYSTALS-this is where the THC is, so if it looks like its rolled in sugar, its a good thing
Sticky-the stickier the better
Smell-not as reliable,but strong smell typically means good bud
appearance- good nugs are a fresh green, not dried out or compressed
Price-you'll generally pay more for good nugs, but be sure you are getting good shit before you hand over good money.

Bad bud
Compressed-if it looks like they pressed the weed into a brick and sent it from Mexico, they did

 

nothing is foolproof. there is weed that appears to be utter shit that will really surprise you, and there is DEFINITELY such a thing as weed that APPEARS wonderful but lets you down in the worst way.

crystals and stickiness are essentially the same thing and depend on resin production. the "crystals" are actually resin glands. they are a good indicator of strong pot, as the majority of THC is in the resin, but the resin isn't simply pure THC, and there IS THC in other parts of the bud than just resin glands. i've seen pot that didnt look like much of anything that REALLY kicked my ass, and theres also pretty resinous stuff out there that just isnt very potent.

taste is very important to quality. it doesnt matter how strong it is, doesnt matter how it looks or what the high is like, if it tastes bad or the smoke is too unpleasant to enjoy smoking, then its not good weed!

smell - the aroma should be pleasant, whether its strong or not. lower grade pot often has smells that are grassy or haylike. good pot has a very wide range of aromas - skunky, piney, slightly minty, fruity (i've had pot that smelled like champagne to me), sour....but no matter how it smells, the smell should be pleasant and nearly intoxicating in itself

effect - this is one of the biggest reasons to smoke better quality herb. there are a very wide range of effects, but they're generally all more pleasant than lower grade cannabis in which many of the cannabinoids have, over time, degraded into less desirable substances. they still have an effect, but are more likely to cause things like being sleepy, getting a headache, getting tired, bored, and lazy, a burned out feeling, a dull feeling. even the more sedating types of weed are very different in quality from lower grade weed - the feeling is much nicer. you'll know it when you feel it, if you havent yet. other weed offers a more clear minded experience, and can increase alertness and even be stimulating in nature.

these are just some of my personal ideas of what makes good weed. stronger, tastier, more pleasant effect, nice aroma...but nothing is foolproof and there is no one definition of good weed. maybe you're on a tight budget and lower grade cannabis is a better idea because you get far better deals on it. definitely good, especially if you dont smoke often...it all depends on what you're looking for.

it's fairly hit or miss, the main thing i'd probably look for is how dry the weed is, then after that it boils down to experiance

i usually go off of look and smell. Look can really only get you as far as telling the difference between bud and shwag/mid. But as for the different looks of the bud, its up to you really,you will find what you like and dislike about it. i personally like seeing a bit of purple in mine,and it has never failed me yet. as for smell,it doesnt have to over power the room,but make sure that if u put a bud up to your nose you get a nice whiff of a strong odor of some sort.

 

everything nesta said!!! I will say tho, i had a particular pheno of Northern Lights #5 that smelled like straight cat piss!!! Was damn good bud, but it stank to high heaven!!!

i just want to comment on what ahimsa said about "good nugs being fresh green."
in my experience, this is generally true. HOWEVER, the light/bright green nugs are "fresh green" because they usually get flashed cured/dried by the grower. slow, air drying will often result in a darker appearance (not exactly brown--like compressed mexican--but fairly far from that light green), while still retaining its awesome ass-kicking THC levels.

so if i had to choose ONE factor on which to make the call, i'd choose smell. nothing else smells as pungent and sweet as GOOD bud.

 

How to tell if you are smoking headies in four easy programmable steps:

1. Test to see if the bud smells and tastes very nice. The best way to do this is to smell the bud itself and then to smoke it in a joint or a pipe. If no, go to step three. If yes, proceed to step two.
2. Wait thirty minutes after smoking a bong hit and see if you are now RIDICULOUSLY stoned. If no, proceed to step three. If yes, proceed to step four.
3. I'm sorry, but you are not smoking DANK ASS CHRONIC.
4. Congratulations! You have found yourself smoking some fine headie goodness!

 

If it makes me cough and if the back of my throat feels like it's on fire is when I know it's bomb bud.

 

If its super super potent bud and you take a huge hit from a bowl about halfway through itll be like a lion to the face, but in a good way. Youll just be ridiculously high


And also, take your time when your smoking, I find I get way way higher than If Im rushing and worried about how long im taking
