Lately I’ve been feeling different. It’s hard to describe, but I’ll try.

I feel like my consciousness is protruding out of my head. It feels as though everything is one in a way. I see similarities between myself (consciousness) and everything, whether it be a car, a tree, a person, whatever. Unlike derealization, I don’t dissociate from everything; instead I become one with it. I am in the world, but out of it at the same time. It feels similar to depersonalization, in the fact that I am detached from it, but unlike depersonalization it doesn’t feel like it is “far away” or “out of my reach”. It feels closer then ever. I don’t feel like I can’t participate in this game of life. It does feel foreign, or new in a way. I suppose that’s just living in the moment. Everything feels new when you live in the moment. I don’t much care for a blue sky or a grey sky. I am indifferent now. I am happy in my room and outside it. I feel strange, it’s difficult to describe. I feel happy, but not the usual happiness you get when say you’re at Disney world. That’s a fleeting happiness, this is always there. Unless my ego begins to worry about this condition, as it truly is not a normal state of mind that I’m in. Also, I seem to be developing intense intuition and my third eye and crown chakra are opening. When I meditate I often feel an intense pressure at those two points as well as tingling. I also hear voices when I meditate, not clear cut ones, but something’s there. I hear it when stoned, too. I know that’s a sign of clairaudience (or schizophrenia :p ).

I’ve read that this is just a sign of progress in meditation, but I just want to be sure I’m not going crazy or something. Also I was wondering if someone could tell me what a "projected consciousness" means?

I suggest that you get with a complete system that allows you to deal with all of your Cakras, beginning with the lower ones. Everyone wants to effect the third eye, or the Sahasrara Cakras, yet your ego consciouness is being totally emanated from the lower five, especially the manipura on down.
Consciouness as we live it is a phenomenon of Prana, the divine agency by which God brings his mind down out of the Sahasrara Cakra to the experience of yourself, using all of the cakras, the complete cakra paraidigm as mapped out by Tantric Yogins, to accomplish this. But the ego prana is coming from the lower five cakras.
This is why you must deal with the pranic karmas in your lower cakras, because this is where you as yourself is being projected from.
Our egos, finite mind, whatever you want to call it, is a far cry and a distinct difference of consciousness from the higher divine mind that is spontaneously manifesting you as you read these words.
Yoga Tantra properly performed effectively purges you of your ego drives, karmas, and ultimately illusory sense of finite self, so that it can be effectively replaced with the divine self or mind that you really are.
A few techniques, mantras here and there, and experiementing, is not the whole thing, by a long shot. Basically, your having Cakra flashes. What you want instead is a long term consciousness change into the living realm of Sat-Cit-Ananda.

So basically, work on the lower chakras? Could you give me some tips on how to do this? What I have in mind is simple visualzation, just focusing my energy on the lower five chakras when I meditate instead of the third eye and crown.

I meditated and focused my energy on those points and felt incredble energy there. Especailly my naval center.

The above link will take you to a site that describes yoga postures to aid in focusing your meditations on a particular chakra. The bottom of the page will take you to other pages depending on the chakra you are focusing on.

I teach yoga. I understand what you're feeling as well as what you are trying to do. If there's anything I can do to help, all you have to do is ask.

    Dreamofthereis Prabhu,
You can start by learning the names of the lower cakras, so as to begin applying mental and oral recitation attention to them. As I re-read your thread, I think that the expansive experience you are having is your ajna cakra trying to become active. As I have reiterated repeatedly, our minds are connected directly to the all expansive divine self or mind that comprises reality all around us. So actual experiences of samadhi will include states that will place you in the realm of experiencing yourself as one with the space around you.
But, if the pranic structures are still in place that function to support your finite ego state of mind then experiences such as this expansive state can be disorienting.
This is why when one embarks on the quest for divine self realization they understand what it is they are really seeking. These levels of divine realization are real, fantastic, and are the epitome of life affirming experiences, but, they must be integrated into your consciousness appropriately, which is what a Yoga Sadhana does.
Learn your cakra names;go to my website www.kundalinidream.org.
As the above teacher said, learning asanas to effect the cakras is ultimately essential, although it is easier to effect the Muladhara through Mula Bandha.
But for now, learn the names of the lower five cakras, so as to be able to do simple japa on them. The cakras are the basis for your finite self, meet them and become friends. "Do not" meditate on them. They do not require such attention to be aroused.
As a final note, I would advise modifying your goals; keep overall divine spiritual realization as the focus of your quest, and God will lead you without question. Its not about psychic experiences or events, the yogic quest has always been about subjective service to God.God bless and go to the above website. Namaste, Yogin Bhairava Atmabhoda Sarasvati
