I just heard on the radio that the Canadian dollar is now

$1.01 USA. I am not a finical expert so I am not sure how it will affect our economy – but I am pretty proud this morning. Cheers!

so if i had ten american dollars to spend, and i was in canada, on say, something that's not sold in stores, but on the black market.... well i guess it's better now to have that conversion rate so i don't get as confused. but i always thought it was like $0.75 canadian per $1 american, meaning the same thing costs more canadian dollars than it does american dollars, so things still cost more in canada, meaning you guys are getting screwed. damn, i have to pick now to go to canada. and it's winter. silly me...

Yeah, but everything here is set up around those types of prices. I've talked to Americans who thought that $8/hr was a good wage. I think our minimum is up to that now and you could never live of it unless you were sharing a bachelor with like 6 people. If we want our prices lowered we're going to have to settle for wage cuts too. Just be happy and buy stuff online.

it's kind of just ... inflation. prices go up years before wages go up. that's just life. well life in our screwy economic system which is totally wrong to begin with, but yeah.

the wages have not gone up high enough to justify the gouging the retailers are doing to us for stuff they are now bying in the states at a fraction of the price they used to pay for

anyone else think that this has something to do with the impending north american union

and the north american currency--the amero

if our dollar is at par, it's going to be a lot easier for canadians to swallow giving up our own currency for the amero

i think the least of our worries is that prices dont reflect the current value of the dollar, things are going to changeCHANGEchange a LOT over the next little while, buckle your seatbelts and hold on...

It takes time. It'll happen. When our dollar bottomed out, prices didn't catch up right away either.

It would be no fair if they go ahead and drop prices on everything here in Canada. Lets say i went out and bought a new car for $40,000 3 months ago, then today they decide to drop all prices on that same car by 20% to make it at par with the same vehicle in the states. Im sure there would be lots and lots of explaining to do and probably a couple law suites. IMO.

We pay more because about 70-100 years ago(forget when) The liberals wanted free trade with the usa. the conservitives were against this saying that we would eventually just become anothe us state. The next election the liberals lost and the conservitives won...so we did not get free trade.
