"Michael Lang, the organizer of the original Woodstock Festival and the last two attempts to recreate it, has said he has “many things planned for 2009”—a year that will mark the festival’s 40th anniversary. It would be wonderful to have a true “new Woodstock” to commemorate it, but if Lang goes through with his plans, we can probably expect an overcommercialized mess devoid of the original Woodstock spirit."

The way I see it, there deffinatly needs to be a few changes.
    1. Cheaper Vending. No more $4.00 bottles of water.
    2. More shade.
    3. Better Security.
    4. Keep bringing back the good bands, but in a more Peaceful way.

What do you guys think about this?

    I plan on going.
I was at '99 and I was only 9 years old, but it was AMAZING.

HHmm its always quite the challenge to recreate and redeliver an experience that in many peoples' minds was one of perfection. We'll see what happens. Lang can organize however he likes but it is the peopple who go who will bring the energy

    -i'm SO there.
but the thing is, people aren't as peaceful at these things. they wear tie dye and go, but at the '99 woodstock, there were riots, rapes, and beatings:/.

hopefully, more of US go if this happens. i, for one, want to go!

I'm sure that Woodstock '09 will happen. And We all need to go, and support, and see to it that things stay peaceful. Alot of reasoning behind the rioting last time was because of the heat, and outrageous food and drink prices, steep ticket prices, and plus there was no shade and it was held on a Superfund Hazardous Waste Site. I hope they are a bit more wise about locationing this time.

its not just the people but the bands that played, they were much more aggressive bands than what played in the 60's

mmhmm, totally true. i forgot to mention....i never stopped to think that the music played a huge part in it, too.
but who'd be good bands to have play?
i say the flaming lips, wolfmother....a few others.

    I wouldn't go to Woodstock 09'

Woodstock has come and gone. If there is a Woodstock 09 it will be mainstream and advertised and corporate sponsored. There are so many small grass roots festivals that represent all of the ideals without any of the smoke and mirrors.

Well what if there was a way to have it sponsored by the little man? Hippie business people and vendors of that sort?

it kinda scares me they are planning it 2 yrs in advance,
I imagine it'd be a lot better if it was kinda spur of the moment
like before...but I really do want to go and I plan to.
Well actually- I will be there for sure,
    I just hope it's not overcommercialized...bummer. ]]=

There is no way to do that. "Woodstock" is a commodity now. In fact, it was a commodity as soon as it ended.

The festival you're imagining exists already. Every small local grassroots music festival. And the reason they stay small and nice like that is because it's not labeled as some woodstock wana-be fest.

So you don't get hundreds of people showing up for the party and the mayhem without regard or thought to what the festival "is really about"/should be about/WAS about. And it's unfortunate because so often these little festivals are under appreciated, because they don't have mainstream acts or well known bands or anything. It's sad.

The second this festival was conceived it was sentenced to death. Woodstock 99 is a PERFECT example.

Besides that, the guys that organized woodstock were kind of assholes. I mean, bomb that they did it an they come off as nice guys in the film sorta, but well... whatever. The shere fact that they're trying to do it again screams a push for money in their declining age and that's unfortunate. I can't wait to see the ticket prices :p

(I just went to a festival in vermont, all local business sponsored on some dudes farm.... 2.5 days, cost me $40 with camping, water, and parking included. That's on par with the $10 prices back in the 60s. No adays festival ticket prices are a big turn off... sorry that kind of got off track.)

    ...What's in a name?

Hehehe, you should do some reading about woodstock. It was FAR from spur of the moment. Just because PEOPLE SHOWED UP spur of the moment doesn't mean it was "thrown together" spur of the moment. ;-)

I agree with what you guys are saying, but I'll probally go anyway. I'm hoping that people will realise that Woodstock 1999 was way different than that of what it should have been, and I'm hoping that Mr. Lang will change the festival and it's image for the better.

BONNAROO is in TN in the middle of summer, its fuckin hot too. the food and drink are very expensive there too. the tickets are over $200 dollars. there is no shade too. and there has never been a riot. the problem was the crowd that the bands brought. bring hippie music, hippies will show up... bring pop music you will get a bad crowd every time.

no shit.. same with 10,000 Lakes..its usually 90+F... tix start at 130$ end at $180.. not to mention the $30 camping pass.. food is not cheap nor is the drink... $6 for a PBR silo... water was like $3-4.. think my average meal was $6-10.. fuckin suck it up folks.. you're goin to a place where they are gonna have to pay out anywhere from 40-80 different bands(i think on yonders website you can look at their contracts.. they charge like $10k and request certain things before they will even play).. pay all the workers.. security.. ect... it turns into quite the investment.. and you need advertising to pay for loose ends and make some profit so that future festivals can be held... it was not the heat.. food/drink prices.. ticket prices.. if anything it was the mix of bands and how some of the bands led on the crowds to do rediculous shit.. like Limp Bizkit and shit.. they just added fuel to the fire
