Boycott chemical hair dyes, cosmetic surgery, anti-aging products, fake tans, tanning beds, bleach, make-up, flat-iron straightners, ceramic curlers and chemical perms.

The companies that produce these items want you to reject how you look naturally and conform to their one image of beauty - a Barbie doll!
Not only are they unnatural, some are very damaging to one's health!

These companies want you to fry your hair with straighting and curling irons,
Bleach your hair until it is a crispy shade of white,
Cover your face in so much make-up you look like a clown,
Fake tan your skin so you are orange,
or entice you onto a tanning bed where you damage your skin even more and possibly get cancer.
They hate it when your hair starts to go grey and order you to cover it up,
and wrinkles must be disposed of using "anti-aging" products because women cannot be seen aging.

So embrace who you are and what nature gave you. :)

If you have curly hair, embrace the curls, if you have freckles, don't try to cover them up like you're ashamed of them, if you have dark hair, don't wreck your hair by bleaching it, embrace your hair colour... and if you are aging, embrace your greys, silvers and whites!

    So who's with me?? :)

You've got a point. It's rare these days to see someone promote natural looks. I can see, though, why women are inclined to buy these products. They are made to think they are ugly if they do not, which seems cruel to me.

I've just let my hair go grey over the last year. And the funny thing is, people consider me a blonde now! That's pretty funny to me, seeing as how I've been a brunette all my life. They love how it looks and so do I. I didn't dye my hair often (since I'm lazy that way) but I did it about twice a year to get back to my "natural" color. There was a book of quotes by famous people I had the occasion long ago to pick up at someone house - one was by one of my musical heros - Joni Mitchell. Loosely quoted she said something like "Americans have an awfully hard time with aging gracefully." That always stuck with me. I'm sure it's true of several other cultures too (now) - but the bulk of other cultures seem to respect the elders more in their socities.

I don't mean to reference your age, but I do have to say I'm highly impressed someone as young as yourself sees through the veil of 'crap' as you do. It does my heart good.

Can I ask how many of your friends feel the same way or are you the only rebel voice?

I agree, people should aspire to be naturally beautiful

Educate those who use those products at the least...but if some still want to use them anyways, it is their choice.

You're right! Companies are trying to make you feel ugly so you'll buy their products when you don't need them!

Todays society focuses way too much on exterior beauty... it's such a shame.

Thanks for responding - natural beauty is something i'm very passionate about and i'm glad others feel the same.

And hannah, that's so great you're growing out your natural grey hair... When I grow older I am letting my hair go grey - I imagine myslelf in the future with a mane of long silvery hair... I just love it! :&

The way I view "wrinkles" is like this - each new little line you find, it shows the length of your wisdom is increasing. If you have lots of wrinkles, it shows that your wisdom stretches for miles. :)

    Nope, just me unfortunately...
I'm surrounded by plastic teenagers though, it's shocking. :(

I totally agree with you all, people are looking more and more like artificial clones than normal and natural. I (and mostly ALL of my guy friends) find the natural look so much more appealing. Not that I mind much. Or notice... I'm really unobservant lol.
I boycott all of those things apart from VERY little makeup - just puff powder and a touch of mascara for important occasions, eyeliner too if I'm supposed to look posh :D

I use to belong to the treadmill of beauty in a bottle. I gave it up over a decade ago. I have grey hairs and I love them, although they bug my boyfriend as he wishes to pull them out- so I told him for every grey hair he even attempts to pull out adds an extra day between shaving my armpits. lol! He hates hairy armpits so he leaves my grey hairs alone.

    LMAO- That's tops =D

So many of these teen magazines preach that people should feel content with themselves, then suggest packing on the make-up!

A little every now and then is fine, but wearing it everyday, even if it is just to pop down the street for a few minutes, is utterly ridiculous!

Nowadays, it's hard to find someone with their natural hair colour, some not even knowing what it is! I'm always getting comments about how nice my hair is, which comes as no surprise, b/c all I do is wash it and brush it or tie it back, and don't straighten it, EVERY, FREAKING, DAY which just leads to using more products!

    :)

I agree with you guys - people use way too many cosmetic products. And most of it is just a bunch chemicals that are bad for skin/hair and could possibly cause cancer anyways.

I don't understand why people feel like they have to colour their hair or cover up their faces just to fit in and look "acceptable" according to society's standards. I went to a Catholic middle school, and they always told us that we shouldn't colour our hair, because God made it the colour it is for a reason... I don't know if I believe that, but, yeah... the more natural, the better. [IMG]

I personally don't use make up, or bleach my hair or anything... I'm too lazy to do anything like that, and besides that, I don't even know how to, lol.

Everyone should give up their make-up and other cosmetic products, for at least one day! Be free, people! [IMG]

I just recently got out of a relationship that completely changed my life. My ex was the one who helped me take the first step to realize how beautiful I really am. I used to be very insecure about my face and body, but now I'm very comfortable in my own skin. I never wear makeup anymore, and to be honest I think I look better without it. :)

I enjoy dyeing my hair. I dont dye it for socitey (they dont like people with rainbow colored hair) or for boys because they will love me for who i am. I dont dye it to cover up gray. I do it because I like to change the color of my hair. I dont compromise my natural beauty by making this choice for myself. Sorry.

if you use cosmetics, choose wisely...use natural products because your skin is a living organ and chemicals will kill it...cosmetic 'beauty' today can lead to ugliness and premature aging tomorrow.

I reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally have to agree with this thread.

I mean, Plastic Surgery is really just another way of looking like a Barbie doll! OK, I realise, I am a guy. But you have men doing the same thing! Plastic surgery is really just gobshite, It's just taking out what socieity thinks you shouldn't have and makes you look like the way 'Mr/s Average should look.

Also, I find cosmetics not only age people so they splash more makeup to hide that, but it also makes people look uglier. The natural face is better than one doused in chemicals. Natural products are a wonderful idea that should be promoted!

Plus, don't get me started on hair gel!

Think of the money you save by going natural. That stuff is expensive, not to mention that much of it is tested on animals, and probably as bad for the environment as burning old fashioned light bulbs.

I fullyheartedly agree that natural beauty is the best kind of beauty and that plastic surgery is strange.. and totally not something for me or even something I consider beautiful. Same with excessive makeup. But I think that people should have the freedom to make whatever choices they want to make with their own body & their own money. Plastic surgery and excessive makeup doesn't hurt anyone but the person that is paying to do it. And some people dig it. It's all good, guys. Let people be. If you consider it bad, let them make their own mistakes.

Oh, and by the way, there's nothing bad about a little mascara or eyeliner to make your eyes stand out. ;)

    You know, I realized something..
I AM pretty natural when it comes to appearance.
I don't shave, and if I do, I never keep it up, haha..
    I wear seldom wear makeup.
I wake up with my hair looking like it does.

But I'm the kind of person who likes to surround myself with what I find beautiful.
I want a nose piercing (because I find them beautiful,)
I will occasionally put on eye makeup (because it makes my eyes stand out.)
I may get a tattoo (again, 'cause it would pretty & meaningful to me.)

If someone finds that kind of happiness, and is happy with themselves, when they get a face lift, botox injections or anything else for that matter.. who am I to tell them it's wrong?
