So I recently stumbled across these forums the other day and I've been trolling em ever since. I'm currently looking for a new college and I've always been a big supporter of the hippy lifestyle and all that comes with it. Right now I'm going to Oklahoma State University (cause I live in Oklahoma) and I'm a freshman. I'm originally from Chicago, IL but my family moved us down here when i was real young and i've been stuck in this "hellhole" ever since. After like half a semester there I can't even stand it there, the college is super conservative, and religion is constantly being pounded down my throat. I'm looking for a smaller, more green conscience, liberal, hippy college to change to so that I actually feel like I belong. I've been looking at Evergreen State College in WA and I was wondering what all you hip guys and gals round here thought about it? I'm fairly smart (imho) and I hate the war in iraq, george bush, I lean to the left, I smoke marijuana from time to time, Im hoping to get dreads soon (I've got what i'd call a jew fro atm), and I love all things nature and outside. So from what I've said can anyone say if this would be a good fit or could anyone else reccomend some colleges? Thanks to all you groovy folks in advance!
Hello Hippyghost & Welcome to the forums. You should be able to find a cool college quite easily on these forums. I know that Ohio U, in Athens, Ohio is considered a "head" school, and has a great cool lil town around it with lots of older hips in the nearby farmland. Good luck in your search. Peaceful thoughts your way.... Farmout
Applachian State University in Boone, NC is a great college. The ppl of Boone are accepting of the students. When I was there in the early 80's there were a lot of earthy ppl. There are a lot of places to go out in nature and relax, a lot of hiking trails right around the campus, and life on the outskirts of Boone is really simple with a lot of ole timey farms. Check out Meat Camp. Anyway, welcome to Hippieville. Enjoy the forums and I look forward to reading your future posts. Peace be with you!!!
Hippyghost, Welcome to the forums. Want a college thats a little more liberal? Check out the UW Wisconsin-Madison. Excellent education opportunities and some of the most open minded people you will find.
thanks for all your suggestions, I'm looking for a smaller school like 10k or less cause right now im at a school of like 25k and i'm just a face in the crowd and dont really fit in. I've looked a little bit at University of Vermont and it looks pretty cool but I'd have to find out more about it.
